Oh Oh NO!
Review of Casino Royale (Wide Screen) by garleon

Advantages: NONE, oh it would make a good coaster.
Disadvantages: You name it.

Casino Royale was the name of the first James Bond novel to be written by Ian Fleming in 1953. In 2006 we shall see Daniel Craig take on the role that such actors as Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan made their own. However in 1967, right after Thunderball and before You Only Live Twice there was another Casino Royale ! Casino Royale If you are a fan of the James Bond films as I am, you will know that this film exists and is not classed as an "official" ...
...the back of the new Casino Royale, and I wish to stop that from happening. There is an all star cast including David Niven in the title role as Sir James Bond. Woody Allen, Orson Welles and even Ursula Andress. Right from the opening credits you get the feeling that THIS is where Mike Myers got his idea for Austin Powers. If not because of the 1960's music, but the whole Burt Bacharack style musical accompaniment and lovely ladies. I loved the Austin ... Read review

Playtime
Review of Playtime (Subtitled) (Wide Screen) by Martinscholes

Advantages: A truly wonderfil film
Disadvantages: None

Monsieur Hulot (played as always by Jacques Tati) tries to contact an American businessman in Paris. Seems simple? Well, yes… But this is Monsieur Hulot we are talking about, and anything could happen ! Monsieur Hulot finds himself trapped in a maze of modern architecture as he bravely battles his way through a never ending series of errors and mishaps. Add to this a party of American female tourists and we are set for what must be one of the best ...
...very well received at the time it was released in 1967. Which is probably because it was really a genuine example of a film that was some years ahead of its time. It is said that the commercial failure broke the heart of Jacques Tati. If so, that is terribly sad, as the film is a masterpiece of genius. The film has two strands running through it. Monsieur Hulot and his brave attempt to find his business contact and the coach party of female American ... Read review

Splendid Slapstick
Review of The Odd Couple DVD by jbsabbath

Advantages: Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau at their best!
Disadvantages: It has a slow ending

...were vitamins! He could be the healthiest one in the room!" The term 'odd couple' has been used for countless films, mostly in buddy cop flicks, such as 'Rush Hour' or 'Shanghai Noon' as starkly different personalities play off each other so well. 'The Odd Couple' then, of 1968, is the defining moment. Never has there been such a pairing as Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison, one an obsessed health freak, and the other, the laziest slob in the city! ...
...they are kept low until the end, when Oscar ultimately cannot stand his roomate. "You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow. 'We're all out of cornflakes. F.U.' Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!" This is probably one of the fun
