Review of Carry On Constable (DVD)

Carry on teaching

Advantages: a nice gentle funny comedy that is very much a part of shaping the Carry on films.
Disadvantages: not to everyones cup of tea

Review of Carry On Teacher (DVD)

probably the best comedy ever made

Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: none

Two men hide out in an all girls band while being chased by the mob afer witnessing a murder. A simpe plot but in my opinon the basis for one of the best comedys made to date and a showcase of three fantastic performers. Mr Billy Wilders keen eye and fantastic directorial skill has seen to everything. I mean there is not a thing out of place. Even down to the casting of George Raft has the mob boss, a man famous for his serious depictions of gangsters. ...
...of her best roles. she is:sexy, funny and beautiful in this film and really exploits her sexy blonde image to hilirious effect. Tony Curtis proves to be a great straight man, not that he doesn't have his moments but he is the ideal sounding board for the bigger personalities of Monroe and Lemmon. And as for Jack Lemmon I have never seen him funnier, he seems to really get his teeth into the sparkiling dialogue and fills out his dress and heels perfectly, ...

Review of Some Like It Hot (Special Edition) (DVD)

Another night of hearin' myself talk, talk, talk

Advantages: Cast, script, most things really
Disadvantages: A bit slow at times

Pillow Talk is a wonderful romantic comedy which has hardly aged a bit in the decades since its release. Remade a couple of years ago into the excellent Down With Love, this one can still hold its head up high (and though I personally still like the latter film more, I know that many prefer the original.) Jan Morrow (Doris Day) is a highly successful career woman, who is unfortunate in that she has to share a party phone line with playboy Brad Allen ...
...All in all, Pillow Talk is an extremely enjoyable film thanks to a witty script and an enthusiastic cast. Hudson and Day are terrific whether sparring or wooing, and their phone encounters contain some sparkling dialogue. Tony Randall as the rich wannabe husband who can't understand is very funny, particularly when taking great delight in Brad's failures (though he does turn out to be sort of a good friend in the end!)
