"Sex is what people do most and admit least"

Advantages: Based on the director's own experiences.
Disadvantages: In French.

...Film after Filming a Graphic sex scene in it herself. This film is in French, but has English subtitles. However you don't really need the subtitles, to understand what is going on.! The Film is all about making an Adult movie. The "director" (Parillaud), is trying to get his head actor (Colin) and his head actress (Mesquida) to give the most realistic performance of graphic sex. But in the movie they hate each other. You can imagine how hard this ...
...is a pretty boy who thinks Mesquida is an idiot. Watching them kiss is an exercise in understated apathy. Catherine (The real Director) treats the subject with real respect for her audience's sensibilities. This film has the rare truth about Sex, where confusion gets in the way of sexiness. Parillaud (The movie Director) Has to find away to make the head Actors come together. The film is hilarous. There is nothing sexy about a man being paid ...

Hamming it up in Spain

Advantages: Entertaining, amusing
Disadvantages: Some won't see the point

Silvia, the daughter of the local whore, works in a factory making shorts, but hopes to improve her living standards (and shoe collection) by marrying the son of the factory's owner, Jose Luis. When she finds herself pregnant, Jose Luis does indeed ask her to marry him...the only problem is his parents, who disapprove. His mother hires a part-time model, Raul, to get to know Silvia and steal her away from Jose Luis. But then both Silvia and Jose ...
...good for any of them. Who will win the battle for Raul? And what will happen to Jose Luis and his unborn child? I have wanted to see this film for quite some time; not because I have any particular affiliation to Spain, but because the film sounded interesting and a bit different. Directed by Bigas Luna, it takes a look at a slice of Spanish life in a backwater town where anything seems to go. I was not disappointed by this film. It will not be everyone's ...

Almodovar at his most controversial?

Advantages: Colourful, quirky
Disadvantages: Sexually controversial, sometimes anti-women

Pepi is visited by a police officer who lives opposite and has noticed that she is growing pot on her window-ledge. In return for his silence, she offers sex, which he takes rather too literally, forcing himself upon her. Pepi vows revenge, but her first attempt - asking friends to beat him up - fails when it turns out it is the police officer's twin brother. She then seeks revenge in another way - persuading his wife, Luci, to leave him for the ...
...Bom, Luci is finally able to fulfill her sexual fantasies...or so it seems. Will Luci stay with Bom or return to her husband? And will Pepi ever be content with her revenge? Carmen Maura plays Pepi in what is Almodovar's first commercial success made back in 1980. Maura is an Almodovar favourite, and I have already seen her in a couple of his films. Here, she looks incredibly young, and it is good to see her like this. At the beginning of the film, ...

The idiots

Advantages: Getting to hear danish
Disadvantages: The characters are superficial, a useless twist, arty-farty directing.

...it was von Trier's master-piece, the quintessence of the dogma-95 movement. This movement was created in 95 by a bunch of scandinavians (including Lars Von Trier) and has a certain set of rules that every director must abide to in order to be accepted in the elitist movement. So the camera must be hand-held only, no music, no murder, etc... Personally I think this movement is quite silly but after all I've only seen one of its fruits. Moving on ...
...more of a comedy at the beginning but becomes an emotional over the top drama. The main character Karen becomes involved in the group without really having a choice and decided to stay with them and join in all the FUN! She says she's happy but I doubt that in real life anybody would be really happy in such a situation. Anyway, at the end the leader of the group looses it and gets obsessed with their hobby. He challenges everybody to go back to their ...

Johnny Be Good

Advantages: amusing, clever storyline
Disadvantages: drug taking scenes, but funny enough to get away with it

...plays his love interest in Johnny Stecchino too?! This might have something to do with Nicoletta being Roberto’s real life wife. They met on the set of ‘Tu mi turbi’ (1983) and married in 1991. Well onto the story. Benigni plays Dante, a school bus driver who is a simple soul. He ferries handicapped kids around in his yellow vehicle, making their journeys fun by singing to them. Early on in the film we realise Dante is a flop with women, he’s their ...
...it. Maria names him Johnny Stecchino – Toothpick Johnny. Maria takes Dante to Palermo with her. There we are introduced to the real Johnny Stecchino, her husband the gangster, who just happens to be the very image of Dante. He’s living as a prisoner in his own home. He’s a supergrass and a villain and a man named Cozzamara is after him so he’s gone into hiding. Maria has a plan – to pass Dante off as her husband Johnny, so that when he’s seen in ...
