Have a Nice Day!
Review of Comic Strip - Complete (Box Set) by SnakePlissken

Advantages: mostly superb on a comic and film-making level....
Disadvantages: sometimes hit and miss, "Susie" is awful

...the "GLC" episode of The Comic Strip. I had often enjoyed the Young Ones and Rik Mayall's Grim Tales beforehand, so I recognised the actors from their more benign roles and yet I was shocked and horrified by the excessive violence and malignance of this episode, and I thought my parents were right sadists for finding it even remotely funny! The Comic Strip Presents was one of those shows I grew up on, each episode completely different from the last ...
...DVD collection set of "The Comic Strip Presents" I had wanted to buy it for purely nostalgic reasons but at £44.99, the price put me completely off. Fortunately, to my surprise my local Library had the set available for loan, at only two pounds a week- this was unusual since Libraries don't usually rent out box sets. This meant I had a week to watch all 38 episodes (veering between half and hour and an hour's length) and the feature film "Supergrass". ... Read review

The Love Guru
Review of The Love Guru DVD by ameriemcatamney

Advantages: Funny
Disadvantages: Bit cheesy

The movie stars Mike Myers and deals with the story of a "Hindu" love guru tasked to save the marriage of a Toronto Mapleleafs hockey player before it eventually ruins the team's chances of winning the Stanley Cup. Yes, that's the synopsis of the movie. If you think it sounds shallow and unfunny, well you've hit the nail right on the head. People who were expecting the kind of gross but ultimately super-funny gags and sequences in Myers' Austin ... Read review

Just Like Heaven
Review of Just Like Heaven DVD by ameriemcatamney

Advantages: Good acting
Disadvantages: N/A

Big forehead Reese Witherspoon plays (implausibly) a workaholic doctor who seems to retain her Barbie-like prettiness despite working without sleep. She can't get a date (again, yeah right) and is on her way to visit someone when she gets smacked by a car. Fast forward to sometime later and we meet Mark Ruffalo, who happens to be the new tenant in Witherspoon's apartment. He starts seeing the unknowing ghost of Witherspoon and thus the saccharine-sweet, ... Read review

Just Friends
Review of Just Friends DVD by ameriemcatamney

Advantages: Reynolds
Disadvantages: N/A

Just Friends came out in December of 2005 and just barely flew under the radar. It is quite a shame, considering that this movie, more than any other, demonstrates the talent that Ryan Reynolds has at doing what he does best: being a complete jerk. Reynolds has always done his best when in the role of a smug, cocky, and crassly witty anti-hero and this time is no different. Chris Brander (Reynolds) was the fattest kid in high school whose best friend ... Read review

Amelie (2001)
Review of Amelie DVD by ameriemcatamney

Advantages: Colours and acting
Disadvantages: N/A

Amelie is one of my all time favourite movies. This is one of the best visual movies I have saw. Amelie played by Audrey Tatou. This is a heart warming story of a young french girl who decides to go on a number of missions to bring a little happyness to a number of people. The opening part of the movie is one of my favourite parts as it introduces us to the main characters and shows all their likes and dislikes in a quirky and beautiful way. I never ... Read review
