There are at least 5 versions of Brazil. The European version. The US Version. The Final Cut. The "Love Conquers All" Cut. The DVD cut. All of these are different and I've seen all except the US version. The "Love Conquers All" version is disowned by Gilliam and was edited by a guy called Steinburg to give a happy ending. Gilliams cuts are the dark fantasy world, keeping Sam Lowry (Jonathon Pryce) as the hero who is stuck in a world of red tape, ...
...has many big names and recognizable faces. The writing is amazing coming from Gilliam, Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown. The best cut of the film is the non-happy ending of a tortured Sam Lowry who has turned into himself and escaped into his own catatonia where his fantasy world exists within his mind. I have loved Monty Python since seeing Monty Python's flying circus years ago, so when I saw this collector's edition dvd box set of 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' for sale in HMV I couldn't resist buying it. (and I love it even more now that Michael Palin was an honorary graduate at my graduation and I stood about five feet away from him! ...this film. All of the Monty Python cast are hilarious. It is not a serious film in the slightest and I find it very easy watching. There are also some songs throughout the film which are really well written with silly lyrics and catchy tunes. My favourite bit in the film is when all of the knights pretend to be riding along on their horses whilst their servants make horse noises with coconuts. It's so ridiculous. This DVD is the same as the original but many more extras. It is the six pythons at their best, the film is more of a number of sketches put together rather than following one person directly, it starts of with birth and ends with death, obviously not that simple and obviously extremely funny as it was made by the pythons. (you will get it if you watch the film) If you wich to find out more about the film and watch the pythons doing more funny things then i seriously suggest you watch all of the extras so you can get the full enjoyment from it.
