Disadvantages: complex narrative which can be confusing

I saw this film at the cinema and didn't really understand it at first but there was something about it that really made me want to see it again. I bought it a few years later on DVD and watched it straight away I understood it and loved it because i related with the characters and the acting of Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet made it all the more easy to believe and relate to. I would fully recommend this film to someone who enjoys complex narratives. ...

...comedy with a bit of Shakespeare thrown in for good measure! The story is set around the writing of the Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. It uses genuinely laugh out loud moments and also moments that will bring a tear to your eye to tell the story of how young Will meets Viola and makes her his muse for the famous play. Allen's gorilla warfare satire and political stabs (at J. Edgar Hoover and the likes) are memorable, one worth noting however- when trying to very discreetly, and unsuccessfully, buying a nudie magazine in small shop. The arrays of parodies are too vast to categorize- however, too often Allen dragged the burlesque of the scene.
