Review of Annie Hall DVD by arthurpringle

Advantages: A funny and enjoyable experience
Disadvantages: Erm...you might not like Woody Allen

Annie Hall was the 'breakout' film for Woody Allen as a director. The film won four Academy awards including best picture/director and saw Allen move away from the freewheeling comedy films he was best known for at the time. Annie Hall is essentially about the relationship between Alvy Singer (Allen), a typically neurotic Allen character, in this case a comedian, and aspiring singer Annie Hall, played by Diane keaton in an Oscar winning performance. ...
...between Alvy and Annie's family. Annie Hall begins with Allen speaking straight to the camera as Alvy. The scene is an immediate indication that Allen has moved on and is seeking to make a different type of picture with more ambition. Alvy's very Woody Allen concerns give us an insight into his character and make an arresting beginning; "There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the ... Meet the stone family
Review of The Family Stone by frankiecesca

Advantages: Easy to watch and an array of well known actors
Disadvantages: It isn't the most interesting film you'll ever watch

I bought the family stone for one reason only and that was because the cast was a mix of well known faces! I know I should look for more than this but, being a Sex and the City fan I am always keen to watch anything with Sarah Jessica Parker in! Along with a variety of others who I have seen in other films and enjoyed then it was surely to be a winner wasn't it? Released in 2005 the film was written and directed by Thomas Bezucha. The story: The ...
...every year. When the favourite son, Everett, decides to bring his girlfriend Meredith with him to meet his family it doesn't quite go to plan! He has plans to ask his mother for his grandmother's ring to propose to Meredith but, his family pretty much take an instant dislike to her and find Meredith to be too uptight for Everett. Desperate and needing support, Meredith calls on her sister Julie to come and help. Things just seem to go from bad to ... Read review

Oops ! It's fallen on its backside !!
Review of Farce Of The Penguins DVD by CarlG

Advantages: Nice Penguin Footage
Disadvantages: Bad Language, Poor Script, Repetitive

We were lent this DVD by a friend, until that point I was never even aware that it existed but seeing as Samuel L. Jackson narrates it we thought we would give it a go, after all the numerous other Penguin themed films that have been released over the last couple of years have been OK. The film is a mock of the film 'The March of the penguins' and its filming technique and production is very similar as it features real life footage of penguins which ...
...being given voiceovers by the likes of Jason Alexander and Jason Biggs, Sadly the script is badly lacking, it tries to show the normal tries and tribulations of the male and female groups as mating times approach. So for the women will I get to mate. will I want find someone to settle down with and for the boys: I just want to get laid, hope she's fun. What it ends up with is a repetitive set of sexual innuendo, toilet humour and regular unnecessary ... Read review

Welcome To The Chatsworth Estate
Review of Shameless - Series 1 DVD by daylehall

Advantages: Great storylines, great characters, well written
Disadvantages: Not suitable for anyone under 15

I came across Shameless for the first time about a month ago. Of course, I had heard about it before then but I had never actually watched an episode. After catching the end of an episode on channel four during a night shift, I decided I actually quite liked it and had a look on eBay to see how much I could find Series One for. After finding Series One on DVD for £4.69 including postage, I decided to buy it. Shameless Series One was released on ...
