Have a Laugh - The Worst Week of My Life
Advantages: Exceptionally well written, acted and observed. Very funny. Disadvantages: Only 14 episodes, leaves you wanting more!
...perfectly. It is about the worst week in the life of Howard Steel, a man who falls in love with a girl from a more refined social background than his own. Don't let that mushy stuff put you off, this is far more rewarding than that!
This is another series that comes from a company that seems to have amazing success at writing first class comedies. Hat Trick is an independent company with hits like Father Ted, Have I Got News For You and Room 101 ... ...and each programme represents a consecutive day in the week and there begins the story; the first series concentrates on the run up to the marriage of the two main characters (outlined below) and the second represents the build up to the birth of their first child. A 2006 3 part Christmas Special was also made and whilst hilariously laugh out loud funny, it is not included as part of this box set. Both series were shown on BBC 1 primetime Friday ...

Feel good family of Freaks.
Advantages: Funny, and all round good comedy and acting. Disadvantages: none!
...believes she can win the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest, 800 miles across the country. The film shows how even the most dysfunctional families can pull together when they need to. Steve Carell heightens the humour as a suicidal brother in law, living with the dysfunctional Hoover family. Foul Mouthed grandpa (Alan Kirkin) is a sex-obsessed drug addict, with a son – Richard (Greg Kinnear), who’s speeches to his children about winning are as interesting ... ...shown in the film) Also little girls reaching perfection, overshadowed by their parents own eagerness to succeed, is not the best way to start a young girls life; the early years of life is when our personalities develop. If young children are lead to believe their worth and value as human beings depend on their physical appearance, then this is likely to become their belief throughout their life. As much as the end is funny, it does seem to end ...

TV for idiots?
Advantages: Poor comedy Disadvantages: poor comedy
...com, my huge problem with Gavin & Stacey. As Reality TV show has been so successful for TV they have a few quid to spend on new sitcoms. Channel Four have a winner on their hands with the I.T Crowd and the BBC has Gavin & Stacey, the latter one of the most popular new sitcoms to hit terrestrial for a very long time, although lucky to scrape three million viewers on BBC1, which makes me wonder if this is really all that it seems. Successful sitcoms ... ...sitcoms - but it isn't Gavin & Stacey. I have yet to laugh at it; where as the I.T Crowd is just silly silly funny every time. I just don't get why Gavin & Stacey is so popular. Yes it's inoffensive and warm and some people clearly can relate to the characters but the writing is so safe and the jokes anything but risky I just switch off. I have tried to get it but it's not there for me. It's the same scenario with the Royal Family on BBC1 and ITV1`s ...

A Brilliantly Funny Performance
Advantages: Laugh out loud funny Disadvantages: Lots of drinking, swearing and smoking so not for kids
...you who haven't yet seen Ed Byrne on things like Just For Laughs, I would highly recommend him. Ed is an Irish guy who used to say he looked like Darlene from Roseanne and he's more of the observational comedy school but saying things you wish you'd had the nerve to say in those situations. He spends his whole time on stage drinking and smoking and he does swear rather a lot, so not one for showing children or for those who dislike swearing. The ... ...family, and an interview with Ed Byrne and Dara O'Briain, during which they watch bits of the live show and discuss it, which was OK. However, the DVD menu itself is quite amusing as there is a list of options and Ed walks on to the screen and sits on a stool making "dum-di-dum", "there you go" type comments while gesturing towards the options and once you select an option he tells you a bit about what will be shown.
It's hard to sum up Ed Byrne's ...
