A 1980s masterpiece: series three!
Review of The Beiderbecke Connection DVD by
the_blue_axe
Advantages: Good characters and storyline
Disadvantages: No special features
The less than ordinary school teachers Jill Swinburne (Barbara Flynn) and Trevor Chaplin (James Bolam) are back in the final series of this gentle comedy. (See: The Beiderbecke Affair and The Beiderbecke Tapes) The Beiderbecke Tapes was quite different to The Beiderbecke Affair, but The Beiderbecke Connection reintroduces all the characters I had grown to love in the first series: Big Al, Little Norm and the now promoted Det. Insp. Hobson PhD to ... ...adaptation from the book of the same name by Alan Plater and was first shown in 1988.
Things are slightly different now that they have first-born, although marriage isn't exactly an issue in their easy-going but unbreakable relationship! More havoc ensues, this time Jill has an unexpected visitor while the two play host to a lodger as a big favour for Big Al and Little Norm - which once again sparks police interest! I'm delighted to see Mr. Pitt ...

Woody's Bananas
Review of Bananas (Wide Screen) by
povertyworstviolence
Advantages: humor
Disadvantages: humor
Allen's gorilla warfare satire and political stabs (at J. Edgar Hoover and the likes) are memorable, one worth noting however- when trying to very discreetly, and unsuccessfully, buying a nudie magazine in small shop. The arrays of parodies are too vast to categorize- however, too often Allen dragged the burlesque of the scene.
For the price stated above- it's worth it, for if by any particular reason you don't like it- you only lost max. of four ...

I'll be There For You!!!
Review of Friends - Series 1-10 - Complete (Box Set) by
Billiesue
Advantages: So Funny
Disadvantages: ---------------
...big brother used to watch friends all the time and that's when I got into it. It isn't as repetitive as some other American sitcoms.
Friends is a sitcom about six friends living in New York, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica and Rachel.
Phoebe is a hippy guitarist. She is vegetarian and has many strong beliefs (although sometimes these are pretty stupid). She also dresses pretty wacky. Phoebe my favourite girl in friends. Throughout the ten ... ...Chandlers girlfriend. Monica has been friends with Rachel since high school.
Rachel is addicted to fashion. She entered the series as a spoilt girl who had run away from her wedding. She turned up in the coffee shop in her wedding dress. She always wanted to find a job in fashion and eventually ends up working at Ralph Lauren.
I am totally addicted to Friends (along with many other people). I was really sad when the final series ended but at least ...

A great show
Review of Family Guy - Series 3 - Complete (Box Set) by
JoMo1
Advantages: great Humour
Disadvantages: Not suitable for all!
Family Guy comes under a lot of flak from other TV shows and fans of other TV shows, however I believe that it does not copy these other shows, but does something subtly different, and it does it darn well!
Family Guy focuses on the surreal lives of a cartoon family:
Peter: Moronic father with no common sense or social awareness.
Lois: The patient and loving wife of Peter, who occasionally goes utterly insane.
Chris: The stupid teenage boy, generally ... ...by the rest of the family for being ugly (it is funny, I promise!)
Stewie: The evil baby who is permanently planning to kill Lois.
Brian: The cool, intelligent, alcoholic, talking dog.
The show is extremely surreal, cutting between crazy scenes which are unconnected to the real world, and random sketch-like elements to illustrate statements of the characters.
The show is often much more in touch with the subtleties of pop-culture than other shows, ...

Advantages: Storyline, Humour
Disadvantages: For most, maybe not for everyone
...has the ability to hear what women are thinking. At first it scares him until he gets used to it and begins to use it to his ability. He uses it steals some of Darcy's ideas to get her out of a job which leads to it actually happening. When this happens he feels guilty because he has fell in love with her. Without spoiling the ending he ends up losing his ability and trying to put things right because he understands the female mind more than before. ... ...girl that works under him from committing suicide.
