"I wanna be a producer..."
Advantages: Strong vocals and musical leads Disadvantages: Missing a certain sparkle
The Producers is one of those films that I've wanted to see for a long time. I can't to be honest think why this is the case but it is and so when I noticed it whilst out shopping the other day I simply had to buy it. Now I knew upon purchasing the film that I was going to be a musical style film with a good helping of humour and to be fair that is what I received. I must say however, and this is reflected in my rating of the film, that I was expecting ... ...just wasn't there. The Producers tells the story of Leo Bloom an accountant and a down on his luck producer Max Bialystock who despite Leo's initial reluctance plot a somewhat bent get rich scheme. This scheme however will only succeed if the play that they produce is a complete flop. The money they have then raised to invest in the play will be theirs and they'll be raking it in.
With this in mind the pair go on a hunt to find the worst play ever ...

Wonderful little gem of a film
Advantages: Wonderful story and script Disadvantages: May be too slow paced for some
...film progresses with more people being charmed by Chauncey and taking his words as symbolic and deeply meaningful, rather than the words of a simple sheltered gardener, he becomes a huge powerful celebrity while not really knowing anything about it, or does he. The film begins to make you question yourself and your own belief of whether Chauncey is a man who has been misunderstood and developed greatness or whether this quiet gentle man really is ... ...and take his words as being the utlimate truth, another of an excellent glut of intelligent Seventies films questions politics and people.

The Dragon Lady and the Doormat
Advantages: A strong cast, sharp one-liners and put-downs, glossy direction. Disadvantages: Some cliched writing and dodgy clothes.
...and becomes an assistant to the editor of "Runway" fashion magazine. Her boss is Miranda Priestly, full-time dragon-lady and soon to become the bane of Andrea's life. No errand is too lowly for her junior assistant, no demand too outlandish and every whim must be pandered to no matter what time of day or night. Soon Andy has no life to call her own. And on top of it all, her wardrobe comes under constant scrutiny - pushing her to have a top drawer ... ...the glamour and losing her down-to-earth boyfriend Nate.
Former "Sex and the City" director David Frankel seems the ideal choice to helm this adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's backstabbing chick lit novel. He's got the glossy visuals down pat and keeps the pace up with short, snappy scenes. And of course he knows how important the clothes are to his aspirational audience. Though if you ask me, there are a few too many ludicrous ensembles on show ...
