A Bit Be Bloopered
Review of Bewitched - Series 4 - Complete (Box Set) by
Shroud
Advantages: quality acting, many fine scripts
Disadvantages: a couple of episodes to regret, last series with Aunt Clara, no extras
Season four of this perennial family favourite is where the storylines began to undergo more experimentation. Mostly the result was good, but there are a few clinkers when compared to the brilliance of the other episodes, though none are painfully bad and unwatchable. Many fans hold this season as their favourite, as Serena makes many more appearances, as does Dr Bombay, Aunt Clara is still knocking about, and Tabitha begins exhibiting her powers ... ...chemistry between actors Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery made this a joy to watch and the young twins playing Tabitha acted with a sweet naturalness sadly missed by many TV child stars today. With her feet now firmly wet from the previous season, the new Gladys Kravitz gets to dig into her role more deeply, and we see a return to the flighty, flaky Gladys that we had known and loved so much. Memorable highlights for this season are:
Samantha ...

Is that YOU, Gladys?????
Review of Bewitched - Series 3 - Complete (Box Set) by
Shroud
Advantages: all epsiodes present, in order and unedited
Disadvantages: takes some getting used to the new Gladys Kravitz, no extras
...Season three of Bewitched brought many changes to life at 1164 Morning Glory Circle. For starters, the Stephen's baby, Tabitha, goes from the chubby little black haired infant darling to cute curly, blonde haired and blue eyed tot who begins to display her witchly powers with the development of childish wishcraft. The second change is long time nosy neighbour Gladys Kravitz. Sadly, award winning Alice Pearce died at the end of season two from terminal ... ...the decision tor recast the role was made and Sandra Gould took the role. This takes some getting used too, as she simply was different in so many ways to her predecessor. While good, she simply did not have quite the same character in her features to play homely, neurotic Gladys and relies far too much on shrillness. This Gladys is also always immaculately dressed and coifed, which is distinctly at odds with our previous experiences of Gladys Kravitz, ...

The Spell Continues
Review of Bewitched - Series 2 - Complete (Box Set) by
Shroud
Advantages: more hilarity, and a bonus extra this time!
Disadvantages: RCE encoding meas region 1 will only play on certain region free models, only colourised available in region 2
...the show's premise from my Bewitched Series 1 review.
This series also introduces us to a few new characters. Most notably Samantha and Darrin welcome their new baby, Tabitha (infant twins Tamar and Julie young). The mayhem continues with Sam's estranged father making an appearance, both grandmother's vying for baby, and other ordinary situations that have comic consequences. Sadly, it also marked a departure for Alice Pearce, who played the nosy ... ...the last half of the series' episodes she is noticeably absent. She lost her battle with the cancer but won an Emmy posthumously for her portrayal of Gladys during this series.
What you get:
If you are purchasing the region 2 set, it should be noted that only the colourised version is available, and in some places the colour will be uneven. The black and white version can be purchased as a region 1 import, however. The disc has all 38 of the original ...

Chattanooga choo-choo
Review of The General (Silent) by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: Black and White silent film
Disadvantages: Music score added in not that inspiring(minor point)
...two things that are almost the same. This version of the story has a host of extras with the discs and those are why I bought this version. 2 hrs 24 mins worth. This DVD is coded region 2 so O.K. for U.K. DVD sets or universal sets. Very briefly, the film tells the story of the theft of a train and subsequent events. Buster Keaton is the engine driver, Jonnie Gray. The loves of his life are Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack) and his engine, The General.
... ...made a film in 1956, The Great Locomotive Chase, staring Fess Parker telling the story from the Northern point of view).
This version has been restored frame by frame and a musical score added. The clarity has to be seen to be believed. It is as good as seeing the original film back in 1927. Or perhaps it's even better as you will be watching either on your computer or on a DVD player and you will be much closer to the screen and can thus see details ...

Mr Bean - The Animated Series - Vol. 2 DVD
Review of Mr Bean - The Animated Series Vol.2 DVD by
mints4merlin
Advantages: entertains the kids
Disadvantages: not brilliant, not that funny, more cute than funny
...done by Rown Atkinson as Mr Bean that took the nation by storm in the 80's and early 90's. However he must feel that his looks have faded and has decided to hide behind the newest comedy snippet programme for kids ' animated Mr Bean'. Really I don't mind, and i'm sure that other won't either how ugly Rowan has got, he is and always wil be, a comedy genius.
The introduction of a cartoon Mr Bean intrigued me and so bought the series on DVD. I wondered ... ...Mr Bean, and of course 'teddy', as it really doesn't sound like him at all and it wouldnt be surprising as the odd grunt and whimper can be done by anyone.
The basic and gody colours are also a let down. They make Mr Bean look tacky and very childish despite being modern. However this defeats the object of the Beanmeister. He was supposed to be old fashioned and quirky, living in the ignorance of modern advances of technology and updated fashion ...
