The Triplettes of Belleville
Review of Belleville Rendez-Vous DVD by
JeffreyB
Advantages: Freeview
Disadvantages: Not in English much
My copy of Belleville Rendez - vous came free with a copy of the Times on Saturday. The cover of the DVD gave away the cartoon style that was about to follow. Written & directed by Sylvian Chomet for predominantly French audiences, it is also known by the name 'The Triplets of Bellville' for English speaking audiences. The film came in DVD format, rated PG parental guidance for children under 12 years old due probably to mild nudity & moderate violence ... ...Atlantic to a seaport called Belleville HQ of the French mafia. Playtime
Review of Playtime (Subtitled) (Wide Screen) by
Martinscholes
Advantages: A truly wonderfil film
Disadvantages: None
Monsieur Hulot (played as always by Jacques Tati) tries to contact an American businessman in Paris. Seems simple? Well, yes… But this is Monsieur Hulot we are talking about, and anything could happen !
Monsieur Hulot finds himself trapped in a maze of modern architecture as he bravely battles his way through a never ending series of errors and mishaps.
Add to this a party of American female tourists and we are set for what must be one of the best ... ...very well received at the time it was released in 1967. Which is probably because it was really a genuine example of a film that was some years ahead of its time.
It is said that the commercial failure broke the heart of Jacques Tati. If so, that is terribly sad, as the film is a masterpiece of genius.
The film has two strands running through it. Monsieur Hulot and his brave attempt to find his business contact and the coach party of female American ...

A little seduction never did anyone any harm!
Review of Seducing Dr. Lewis DVD by
l-m-n-o-p
Advantages: Brilliant french humour and charming characters
Disadvantages: A bit silly and lightweight
...all the way.
Overall, Seducing Dr Lewis is one of the best comedies I've seen for a while. If you're sick of slushy rom-coms, puerile gross-out movies and frankly dire film parodies (mentioning no names, Scary Movie 4) then you should give this a try. A return to traditional values is what modern society needs I reckon, and you'll definitely leave the film with a smile on your face.
You can buy Seducing ... ...Jean-François Pouliot
Starring:
Raymond Bouchard… Germain Lesage
David Boutin… Dr Lewis
Rita Lafontaine… Helene Lesage
Réal Bossé… Denis Lacoste
Pierre Collin… Yvon Brunet
Benoît Brière… Henri Giroux
Running Time: 108 minutes
Classification: 15 (Although I cannot see why as there is only the sound of a few orgasms. Considering the same rating was given to Monster's Ball it's a joke really.)
My Rating: 4 stars ...

Meet the stone family
Review of The Family Stone by
frankiecesca
Advantages: Easy to watch and an array of well known actors
Disadvantages: It isn't the most interesting film you'll ever watch
I bought the family stone for one reason only and that was because the cast was a mix of well known faces! I know I should look for more than this but, being a Sex and the City fan I am always keen to watch anything with Sarah Jessica Parker in! Along with a variety of others who I have seen in other films and enjoyed then it was surely to be a winner wasn't it?
Released in 2005 the film was written and directed by Thomas Bezucha.
The story:
The ... ...every year. When the favourite son, Everett, decides to bring his girlfriend Meredith with him to meet his family it doesn't quite go to plan! He has plans to ask his mother for his grandmother's ring to propose to Meredith but, his family pretty much take an instant dislike to her and find Meredith to be too uptight for Everett. Desperate and needing support, Meredith calls on her sister Julie to come and help. Things just seem to go from bad to ...
