thinks she knows all about 'survival of the fittest'. But the law of the jungle takes on a whole new meaning when the home-schooled 15 year old enters high school for the first time and falls for the ex-boyfriend of the school's most popular girl. Let the 'Girl World' war begin! Clueless: It's not easy being the most popular and glamorous girl at Beverly Hills High. Especially when you're the envy of scheming Betties (female babes) persistent Barneys (unattractive guys) and teachers who go postal (freak out) when you turn your homework in late! Yet somehow 15-year-old Cher (Alicia Silverstone) keeps it all together even finding time for extracurricular projects like finding a love match for her debate class teacher (Wallace Shawn) and giving a dowdy friend (Brittany Murphy) a fashion makeover. But Cher's tidy world starts to unravel with the sudden appearance of two total Baldwins (hunks): a sexy and stylish new classmate (Justin Walker) and Cher's square but cute "ex-stepbrother" (Paul Rudd). Now Cher is about to learn that when it comes to love she's... well Clueless!

It may have been quite current in 1995, but the choice words of the 'Clueless' girls is very mid-90s. Their 'cool' is now passée, the 2004 film 'Mean Girls' is a much more current film set out in a similar sort of sense. Whilst it is quite dated, it is also greatly enjoyable and watching 'Clueless' certainly provides for a worthwhile viewing experience. The characters are quite detestable and yet it is this that makes the film so appealing. Due to the way these girls act you don't feel as though you can relate to them, but they're all interesting characters and each one of them is individually entertaining.
'Clueless' is a modernisation of Jane Austen's novel 'Emma'. Cher is the films central figure, at first she seems quite superficial and drives around happily in her jeep despite the fact that she is yet to obtain her driving license. Initially she comes across as quite obnoxious and yet as the film unfolds she displays herself to actually be rather intelligent and charming. She possesses great wit and her emotional understanding is central to the film as she goes on a spiritual journey in a quest to find her inner self.
Played by Alicia Silverstone, our leading lady Cher is excellent in her role as the intelligent blonde. She performs the part well and is most certainly greatly convincing as the character of Cher. Alicia Silverstone injects great levels of depth into the character and her performance really rings true as her spiritual journey begins and the film unravels. If you ever watched the American show 'Six Feet Under' then you'll notice the presence of Jeremy Sisto in this film. He was Billy in 'Six Feet Under', and although quite a detestable character in this film he plays his part pretty well anyway. Truth be told, the majority of the performances in this film are pretty unmemorable, but this doesn't really seem to matter that much as the film is still greatly viewable despite its discrepancies.
I'm not a huge fan of film soundtracks usually and yet I actually find many of the tracks used here to be brilliantly placed and utilised. No Doubt's 'Just A Girl' for example fits the film perfectly, and really works well in the films opening. Mighty Mighty Bosstones 'Where'd You Go' on the other hand provides a good bit of Ska for the soundtrack and in my opinion this can never be perceived to be a bad thing. 'Kids in America' is another well chosen track that suits the film perfectly, and the Supergrass smash 'Alright' is similarly superbly used within 'Clueless'. The soundtrack was well chosen here which I often find with films is not the case, it was certainly good to watch a film in which time and effort had obviously gone into the track selection.
'Clueless' is a coming of age film, Alicia Silverstone's 'Cher' grows up a lot during this film and it is this that is focussed on. The film is funny and yet it also sends out good messages to its viewers about helping out others and perhaps contributing towards making the world a better place. It definitely contains its morals and whilst its highly apparent that the film is now a good 13 years old; 'Clueless' is still a film that is well worthwhile watching if you have not before done so. It provides a nice bit of light entertainment, and if this is what you're after on an evening then why not give this film a go. You can't go far wrong with films of this sort I feel, what could you possibly have against such a charming teen comedy as this.

Songs
In my opinion out of all the films which I have reviewed Clueless has to be the one with the best Soundtrack - I love it! Especially songs such as 'Kids in America', 'Just a Girl', 'Supermodel' and 'Rolling wit the Homies'
I wouldn't personally go out and buy the CD because I'm not a fan soundtracks but this one does ... ...have been released since use Clueless as the film to be like. A lot of teens can associate the characters with people they know, in school for example. This helps to make the film more user friendly if you like.
Alicia makes the character Cher, in fact everytime I see her in anything else I don't tend to see her as Alicia Silverstone I see her as Cher from Clueless! And as a fan of scrubs seeing Donald Faison in his younger days makes me chuckle.

...18 carat midas touch?
Clueless is essentially a modern reworking of Jane Austen’s Emma, taking a cynical but light-hearted look at America’s teenage high school culture. It plays on social stereotypes – the ditzy blonde, the preppy snob, the lesbian P.E. teacher – in such an exaggerated manner that you can’t help but laugh. But the most important thing that makes this film such a success is that, even though you laugh ... ...really care about them.
Clueless is definitely not a film that takes itself too seriously – it has a really fun vibe to it, with bright colourful visuals alongside a happy, girly rock soundtrack (including No Doubt’s Just a Girl, Supergrass Alright, and Kim Wilde’s Kids in America). Cher acts as the film’s narrator, with dizzy and hilarious interior monologues giving us insights into Cher’s unique view of teenage life. ...

Advantages: Great film Disadvantages: Bit dated...but who cares?!
...(and alot of other girls) Clueless was the best film of the 90's (It was made in 1995)! It's basically about a rich, popular, gorgeous Beverly Hills teenager called Cher. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, it is loosely based on Jane Austen's 'Emma'.
The film is about Cher, who lives in a massive house in Beverly Hills with her father. Her mum is dead. Her best friend is Dionne and they love racing round in Cher's sporty little jeep visiting ... ...it are mant to be 15 although most of them look more like 20!

Advantages: i liked it Disadvantages: perhaps not for everyone
This is the original "Mean Girls" and the best at that. who could have thought that this film came out in 1995, that was ages ago! So what is the film about? The main character is Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone. She plays a 15 year old school girl. Her dad is a millionaire and they live in a Beverly Hills mansion, which was built "in 1972, it's ancient!" Cher is the popular one at school and has her friend Dionne (Stacy Dash) at her side at most ... ...- Ty, played by Brittany Murphy Cher takes her under her wing and sets to transform Ty into one of the beautiful people. Ty turns up with checked shirt and baggy jeans and red hair, so it's the typical makeover to make her "normal" However although Ty is happy with the makeover, she seems to get a bit too big for her boots and gets an attitude. Cher is used to just her and her dad living in the house, then her ex stepbrother turns up and moves in. ...

Advantages: Good acting, great plot. Disadvantages: Not really intelligent!
Before I start, I'd like to point out that I really don't like films aimed at teenage girls, usually. I usually avoid them like the plague, but I accidentally watched Mean Girls and loved it! So bear in mind that this review was written by someone who would usually cast a sceptical eye over chick-flicks...
I bought this DVD because I saw Mean Girls at the cinema (because it was on at the right time and there was nothing else left to see, actually!) and I really enjoyed it. At the time, I wasn't really looking for a DVD when I went out, but I saw this bright pink box and it really stood out, so I thought, what the heck, it's only £2 more than Mean Girls (which I wanted...) for the both films, so I bought the box set.
Anyway, I don't regret it because I love the film Clueless now, as well. I know, I'm sad!
♥ The Packaging ...
CluelessClueless is a true 'chick flick'! It stars Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, Jeremy Sisto and Paul Rudd (turk from scrubs). It is classed as a romantic comedy and was directed by Amy Heckerling. This film was released in 1995 and is a 12 certificate, it doesn't feel like 13 years ago that I used to watch it on video after school at least twice a week!
Whilst wondering round tesco one night a couple of months ago the bright pink DVD cover caught my eye and when I discovered that it was only £3 there was no question, I was buying it!
The storyline
The main character is called Cher and is played by Alicia Silverstone, she lives with her Dad in a beautiful house in Beverly Hills as her mum died when she was a baby. Her Dad has since re-married and divorced but still see's his ex-stepson Josh (Jeremy Sisto), who Cher ...

Clueless, 1995, Rating 12, Runtime 97 min
This film is just good fun! It is American teen trash but I love it! I first saw this when I was 15 years old and loved it so much! I even remember rushing out to buy some knee high socks so that I could dress just like the main character Cher! Well 11 years later I saw the DVD on eBay and thought I would get it and relive some of my memories! I enjoyed it just as much the second time around and at the moment my DVD is being passed around various friends who also want a trip back in time.
The Story
This film is based very loosely on Jane Austen's classic Emma.
This film centres around the life of lead character Cher (Alicia Silverstone), Cher comes from a wealthy family and wants for nothing, she is blonde and beautiful with an extensive wardrobe full of the latest looks ...
"...Silverstone is a winner. And so is the movie, which also functions as a lunatic update of 'Emma'..." (Rolling Stone, p.62-64, 10/08/1995)
"...Alicia Silverstone goes to the head of the comedy class as Cher in the oft-hilarious high-school parody CLUELESS....[She] beams throughout..." -- 3 out of 4 stars (USA Today, p.1D, 19/07/1995)
"...A fresh, disarmingly bright and at times explosively funny comedy..." (Variety, )

A semi-vacuous, though well-dressed, Beverly Hills High student struggles with life, love and unlimited charge cards in this classic teen comedy from the director of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Based, believe it or not, on Jane Austen's 1816 matchmaking comedy, "Emma."
