Are humans meant to mate for life? What drives someone in a perfectly good relationship to cheat and risk losing the one that they love and that loves them? Is it possible to love...
more...more than one person at the same time? How well does anyone really know the one that they love? Directed by Mike Nichols (THE GRADUATE, BIRDCAGE, WORKING GIRL), CLOSER questions the nature of relationships and fidelity as it follows the tangled web created by Dan (Jude Law), Alice (Natalie Portman), Anna (Julia Roberts), and Larry (Clive Owen). Dan, a British writer of obituaries, and Alice, a young American stripper, meet in the film's opening scene when a London cab runs her down. Cut to a year later: Dan and Alice are now a couple, but he is suddenly smitten with Anna, a beautiful American photographer. In an ironic twist of fate, Anna meets Larry, a British doctor, and they are soon a couple, despite Dan's continuing obsession. But the entanglements don't end there, and ultimately, someone is sure to get hurt. The four players do justice to a script that is humorous, raw and disarmingly honest about adult relationships.

This is a romantically as well dangerous love story about casual meetings, surprising and powerful passion, taste as well usual betrays.

Mike Nichols is a legend and again returns on the top with adaptation of Patrick Marbera's act with this same title.

It starts enough innocently: Romantic song and crowd of unmoved people going in own directions streets of London. Suddenly, from anonymous faces we can look at two smiling and real-completely different from others. Girl undergoes not dangerous accident and when she recovers consciousness she sees very nice man's face. This is how we met Alice (Natalie Portman) and Dan (Jude Law). This is sound like a beginning of romantic comedy?
Title can show warm love story but this is on the contrary. Next several stages introduce us to genuine atmosphere of movie. Next we are meeting couple Anna (Julia Roberts) and Larry (Clive Owen). However are their not negative figures-oh no. Nichols has done not just a black and white story, which means that this two (Anna and Larry) destroy everything. Because after their appearance the story become not clean and spectator realize that he is not watching a warm movie.

Dialogs sting irony, from one part nice, from other low-class - almost without positive emotion. From stage to stage, "Closer ", it is changed from easy story to heavy and hard drama. Tetrad of stars is implicated in to unusual game I would like to write - " love ", but truth is such, that though they want to get closer, but they are become a part. They run to pull of betrayal, coveting, passionate feelings, disappointments and pain, to pull, it is not possible to show reason in which, does not have cause here, it's only a result. Two women, two men destroyed by enclosing their world, they are worth each others.
Dan betrays Alice, so, she comebacks to stripteases career. In the club, where she find employment she meets Larry, which has split with Anna. Circle is closing, everybody receipt ticket, but nobody has felt relief. There is no output from there, because each relationship has got wounds. Alice returns to Dan, but he does not want her any more, but he does not know, that Anna will return to Larry soon too. They enter with grace to bed and the same they go out from it, to find one's way to other.
Nichols strips them of any dignity, he pay of they Operations, to say clearly, that they are ordinary people, grey mass stripped of sense of basic value. Great words mismatch them- fight for luck so clumsily - that they will never achieve that but not only they have to take that from the others. We understand harms, which they make each other, but looking on it tetrad, we sight personal features. Denouncing them, we would denounce our self; we must grant them with regard -thought about our self.

Similar fell of the movie would not be possible, if not the actors. Natalie Portman domineers on the screen, which one can saves every bad world movie with her grace. She plays a girl, who has arrived from New York, to lead better life. There she was stripteases; she only wants to find happiness here. From whole tetrad she is mostly innocent- but at least it seems so, yes we will not that.
Clive Owen is discovery of year in Larry's role. He has deserved for all awards this universe. From one side of his figure you can see genius-he plays a regard dermatologist-but from the other side he is single 40 years old man which spends evenings in erotic chat rooms to entertaining himself. Therefore, he is figure of contrast - he talk with wife with using vocabulary far passing his intellectuals.
There is Dan too. He is the one loser from "Closer" -he is left husband and lover, all his choices are finished in disaster, and as well he is unfortunate writer.
And on end there is Anna. She is most intriguing and magic figure, but Julia Roberts- the less talented from whole tetrad but most known- she cannot raise such a role. She makes certain mistakes, though and several amazing stages, as even if conversation witch Larry after betrayal.

Nichols seduces spectator with sensitive direction, skillfully leading his stars, but image is not full created by them. He does not give us complete knowledge on their themes. We only see fragments of their common lives -it is possible that, often we can be lost in time jumps. At first Dan meets Alice, but then, right after we observe stage, when they are all ready for long time. Director concentrates on most important moments their relationships, so, it is possible to judge, that it not about the star, but about their fates- although it builds movie exactly.

What "closer "says about? Maybe there is fairest answer is music. In the movie hears arias from Mozart's and Da Ponte 'a composition- "Cosi fan tutte". There are about two couples in love. Certain, that they will be rejected -disappointed because girls go through with them. For men nothing remains as immerse in desperation -their love in one moment become destroyed. History is finished with double wedding. Neither opera, neither movie, however, they do not answer how longs they will be together
