DISNEY CLASSICS COLLECTION

Advantages: A perfect gift for classic disney collectors
Disadvantages: none

How great it is to have three of Disneys most original classics in a presentable box set. These are three of Disneys older and more original classics where the animations are nowhere near as advanced as the likes of Pixar or other computer generated images. No, these are the original pen, ink and true serious magic that only Disney can capture in children and adults alike. The boxset is available in all good film retailers such as Silverscreen. At the moment the prices in supermarkets (Tesco) range from £24.99 to £26.99 but that is still a lot cheaper than the main film retailers. (Most recently they have been withdrawn from ASDA because it is part of Disney tradition to release a set for limited time only - The box is still available on Ebay or the Disney website) (My friend kindly lent me her box set for me to see the differences ...

Alice in Wonderland DVD

Advantages: A classic, very imaginative, not too long
Disadvantages: Misses out quite a lot that was in the book

A really cute Disney classic based on the book by Lewis Carroll! Advantages - much more child-friendly than the book! If you aren't aware of the plot, it centres around a young girl called Alice who sees a white rabbit escaping down a rabbit hole. She jumps in after it and enters a crazy unknown world full of weird and wonderful characters. Much confusion follows, leading to a dramatic build-up and happy ending :) Visually stimulating and much easier to grasp when the images are in front of you rather than trying to imagine them from the book. The film is loyal to the book and includes scenes with the rabbit-hole chase, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and the Queen of Hearts. It's not too long a film, around an hour and a half. Special features of the DVD are obviously limited, with the film being so old, but an effort has been made. There ...

Review of Alice In Wonderland (DVD)

Disney Classic Peter Pan!

Advantages: 'Disney', what more can I say...
Disadvantages: Not as dark as the original tale

message and action are all redeaming features. There is still a strong sense of magic, and on returning both the Darling parents and children learnt a lesson. The parents realised how much they missed their children when they were gone, and the children how much they relied upon their parents (even their ominous father). I don't really understand the importance of a flying tethered dog called Nana, and since this is such a dark story I do not object to Disney 'Disnifying it' so much. (I was quite sheltered during my childhood and wouldn't have appreciated this film being any darker on my first visit to the cinema.) Altogether this is a classic Disney film, and I have since seen many versions of Peter Pan, this being one of my favourites. Prices seem to vary for this digitally remastered DVD. Amazon sell it only second hand and for £18 ...
