Superb sets which evoke a nightmarish sense of the unreal and a stunning central performance by Boris Karloff as the definitive monster, evoking both terror and pathos in equal measures. ...it may not be as revolutionary as it at first seems (George Melles was doing the same type of 'tricks' over 20 years earlier in France) it's still a great addition.
Raptuously received by a public clamouring for more of the Frankenstein saga, Bride performed well at the box office and has passed from the cinema into legend. Whale however never returned to the story, Clive died, and Lanchester and Thesinger were both killed off. So much had changed but Universal still attempted to milk the sacred cow and there were numerous sequels (of which Karloff appeared as the monster in only one, Son of Frankenstein), but Bride is undoubtedly the best of the bunch. Nowadays though it is more of a forgotten film and while the term 'Bride of Frankenstein' may be commonly known, relatively few people have actually seen it.

I quite preferred some of the later versions, with the flute playing Egore with his crooked broken neck.
It is however an Horror classic, which sparked of many sequels and similar movies over the coming years, and Frankenstein is name still well known in present day, with a relatively recent adaptation screen named Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.
A short movie of only 69 minutes.
Directed by James Whale.
Starring Colin Clive, Boris Karloff, Mae Clark, John Boles, Edward Van Sloane and Dwight Frye.
Re- released in 2003 on DVD and is readily available at most good outlets, at varying prices.
