Cinderella Man DVD

Advantages: Historically accurate, Has boxing, Great acting, Superb story, Wonderfully created
Disadvantages: Unfair portrayal of Max Baer

Gould added a clause in the contract that Braddock would recieve 10% of all future purses Louis was to recieve if Louis beat Braddock (which he ultimately did via a 8th Round KO). ...When I first saw the trailer for Cinderella Man I rolled my eyes back till I saw into my skull. It was an incredibly vomit inducing trailer that just screamed, Depression!, America!, Adversity!, Oscars!. It was obvious that Ron Howard's movie was aiming for the awards season and intended to pull on the heartstrings of Academy voters. So I don't know why the studio released it in the summer of last year, as it's not the kind of film I'd want to see during the summer blockbuster season. Needless to say it wasn't the hit that was probably intended although it made a modest £60 odd million dollars but not enough to cover the budget. Anyway I'd read that the movie was certainly better than the trailer made out. So I went ahead and added it to my DVD rental queue. ...championship of the world. But this is more than just a boxing film. Under Ron Howard’s direction, this is more a study on social history. We are shown the lengths one man will take to feed and protect his family. When I wasn’t crying, I was screaming…..a thoroughly enjoyable film for the whole family. Advantages: Great true story
Disadvantages: A bit of sentimentalism

...Him in Doors came back from doing the weekly shop and as usual he came bearing DVD's in particular Cinderella Man priced at £12.97. Now not being a fan of either Russell Crowe or boxing I was not really looking forward to our usual Saturday night with a pizza and a DVD. However once again I was proved wrong, but please don't tell him in doors! The tag line for the film is "One man's extraordinary fight to save the family he loved", now it didn't really make me say "hurry up honey and put the DVD on", in fact I don't think any film would actually make me call him honey. It's based on the true story of James J Braddock (played by Russell Crowe) who is a boxer seemingly at the end of his career and his fight to keep himself and his family fed, housed and together.
