Comedy?/ Yep But surely childs play is one of those horrible schlock/slash films ... Well yeah.. it's supposed to be
But childs play now looks seriously dated, the effects are terrible, the acting is terrible the villain is the most unscary thing, and all the characters are pretty shallow and stupid
Sounds like me it's got all the makings of a great film!!
But seriously now, everyone likes films which are comically bad, and childs play one is one of these. The first time i watched this film with some friends, we laughed for about 6 hours straight, and weren't able to sleep ALL NIGHT we were so amused. Of course we were probably in pretty silly moods, but this film is definitely a comedy classic. It focuses around the central characters of (some blonde woman - I forget the name, it's not very integral to the rather weak storyline), and her son Andy. They're pretty hard up (andy's "mom" is a single parent) and so for her little boy's birthday, andy's mother is forced to buy what he wants from an old pedlar in the street (she didn't have time to save for it before it came out or something like that). What little andy desires most is a "good guy" doll, and this he recieves in the form of "chucky". Unbeknown to Andy and his lovely mother, "Chucky" in fact contains the soul of a serial killer, charles lee ray, who put his soul there by voodoo when he was being chased by the cops. What's more, chucky needs to perform the very same soul transferral spell on poor little andy so that he doesn't stay a doll forever, and so of course much mayhem ensues. Perhaps the funniest thing about this film (apart from the really dodgy special effects and expressions which chucky makes and the bad acting and ..never mind) is the fact that the main threat to the main characters all through the film is this doll, which is about 2 feet high. It somehow manages to overcome people by jumping on them and roaring. The brave victims defend themselves by not beating it to a pulp or kicking it really hard, but throwing it on the floor, at which point it gets up and attacks them again. The whole film is full of thousands of little mistakes and illogicalities, as well as containing some truly appaling special effects. While this isn't really a guru's film, childs play is certainly a good laugh, meaningless but fun- as long as you're not looking for a scare or anything serious about this film! I'm going to say yes to buying it, but you may feel robbed, it's perhaps best to just see it then decide!

I totally agree, probably a comedy classic rather than a classic horror! When I first saw this film I found it hilarious- although surprisingly my friends were actually scared... best aspect must be the fact that Chucky just wont die! great op :> M
