Nostalgia here we come.........
The Goodies: Chorlton, - the happiness dragon, Zoomer, - a wheelie King Otto and Queen Doris, - the monarchs of wheelie world Jenny, - a wheelie girl who has a crush on Charlton The Chamberlain, - a wheelie MP
The Baddies: Fenella, a spectacularly useless witch (who hated Charlton with a passion) with a base camp at Spout Hall (a big kettle) Claptrap, - fenellas taking spell book O'reilly, - Fenellas telescope Fenellas underlings, - mushroom-like "toadies" and "spikers" Clifford, - Fenellas son, who was only ever shown as a huge disembodied foot.
The first series opens with "Happiness is Hatched", wherein, of course, Chorlton arrives fully formed in Wheelie World via an enormous egg. Which had "made in Chorlton-cum-hardy" on the inside of the egg, hence Chorlton got his name.
Basically Chorlton wakes up from an egg one day and he awakens the Wheelies and brightens up the Wheelie World. It had been a long time since Wheelie World had seen a ray of sunshine. The wheelies have three wheels each: two large ones at the front, and a smaller centred one at the back. The wheels are replaceable, and suitable wheels grow on vegetation found in Wheelie World.
Fenella who lives in the green kettle i.e. Spout Hall is furious with his arrival and sets about her many demented plans to be rid of him. She has magical powers which include teleporting and her enchanted assistants include a talking book called 'Claptrap Von Spilldebeans' and 'O'Reilly' the Telescope. Her minions include spikers, sinister looking objects like conker shells with baleful eyes, which roll everywhere and toadies who are pointed toadstools with similar eyes, who travel by bobbing through the ground as though it were water.
Charlton isn't the sharpest tool in the box but by (mostly) accident he beats her evil plans every time.

The production company of Cosgrove Hall also gave us such classics as Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, some Terry Pratchett creations; The Bromeliad, Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, also to come out where Noddy, Bill and Ben, and Andy Pandy. A truly thoroughbred studio that clearly produced golden Television.
Sound quality is good to very good whilst picture quality is also superb and highly watchable. The colourful world in which the series is set will thrill even todays kiddies. The innocence of Chorlton pitted against the evil and hopless witch Fenella will have kids goggling at the screen. Give this a go and you will not be disappointed. Nothing what so ever to offend or upset. Highly Recommended.

CHORLTON AND THE WHEELIES SERIES 2
============================
Recently watched this with my kids and it brought back quite a few memories.
Chorlton is a happiness dragon and one day he wakes up or rather is hatched in Wheelie world. From that point on he brings light to darkness and happiness to all who meet him.
He finds the wheelie people being terrorised by Fenella an evil and frankly hapless witch.
She and her minions try every trick and ... ...wheelie friends.
But Chorlton always prevails over all of her evil plans.
You follow his adventure through 14 episodes on this DVD and kids today would love it, Guaranteed.
If Chorlton had been created today the spin off in merchandise would have earned quite a bit with characters such as, Chorton himself, his friends… Zoomer, King Otto and Queen Doris, and Jenny.
Equally lucrative would have been the evil ones, Fenella and her cohorts, Claptrap, ...

Chorlton and the Wheelies was a creative and bizarre animated children's television programme broadcast in the late 1970's. The second series was really much like the first, the lead character was a Happiness Dragon named Chorlton, who lived in Wheelie World, surrounded by it's inhabitants, The Wheelies (basically faces on wheels, from memory!). The baddie was Fenella the witch, who lived in a kettle, and spied on the wheelies through a long telescope. ... ...or storyline, never mind knowing what it was!), however by watching them again as an adult I can say that actually these were pretty imaginative programmes, Chorlton is a wonderful character, and I would be very happy to show them to my kids today, if I had any that is. ...
