Chopper (DVD) Chopper is based on a true story about a notorious Australian criminal called 'Mark Chopper Read' who allegedly committed nineteen vicious murders and got away with it and surprisingly enough he wrote his autobiography whilst in jail which became a best selling book called 'From the Inside'.
The film starts off very quickly, realistically and violently with 'Mark Chopper Read' played by Eric Bana (who I must say plays the part magnificently) serving one of his many prison sentences and it's not long before you see the wicked sense of humour he has and his dodgy mates. Chopper has a mixture of violence and humour and at times very funny indeed but it will not be to everyone's taste and that's for sure. At times the violence can be extremely graphic and somewhat unnecessary for most viewers who see this film but having said that I was totally gripped and totally entertained the full 90 mins
The Director 'Andrew Dominik' does a splendid job in creating an extremely compelling atmosphere inside and outside of the prison but the real star for me was Eric Bana whose performance as 'Mark Chopper Read' was sensational, absolutely brilliant right down to the last word of the film. Eric Bana has recently become a much more recognized actor and has recently been in some big films such as 'Munich' and 'Troy;.
At the time Chopper was released back in 2000 it was a huge hit both here in the UK and Australia. Deservedly 'Chopper' had many a good write up and as the well know paper 'The Times' put it "A GRUESOMELY FUNNY FILM"
DVD Features The Chopper DVD features 'A weekend with Mark Chopper' which is great as you get to see the real 'Mark Chopper Read' in a enthralling 20 mins documentary also on this DVD deleted scenes with Director's commentary which is well worth watching.
Summary I don't usually like recommending violent films to everyone but if you take the occasional violent scene away you are left with a superb, well acted and extremely funny film which I found both very enjoyable and memorable. Chopper is the kind of film when you finish watching it you will be talking about it for weeks. I also enjoyed watching the extra features that come on this DVD, seeing the real 'Mark Chopper Read' in flesh is quite chilling All I can say is that if you haven't seen this great powerful Australian film yet you are in my opinion definitely missing out as it really is a gripping classic which at 90 mins long will zap by. I know my local Blockbuster has copies of Chopper to rent but why not look on Ebay (www.ebay.co.uk), you might just might be able to pick this great Aussie film up for less than £4.
Ciao has not added a picture of DVD cover so I thought I might.
Advantages: Fantastic film, great directing Disadvantages: I dunno, you tell me
...Loughnan found innocent (Good plan). Chopper is in a power struggle within the prison though. There's a hierarchy of tough nuts and Chopper is one from the top. However, by climbing the ladder of prison 'success' Chopper has made quite a few enemies and there's a price on his head in the prison. This leads to one of the best film scenes I have ever seen. Loughnan betrays Chopper and Chopper refuses to do anything about it. He is stabbed repeatedly ... ...friend vomiting with guilt as Chopper is repeatedly stabbed.
Chopper is separated from his 'friends' and has a cell on his own he requests to be moved to a safer prison but the prison authorities do nothing so he takes measures into his own hands and has his ears cut off so he can be moved to a medical ward. The story then moves on to Chopper free from prison. Life on the outside doesn't suit him however, he is prone to paranoia, he doesn't trust ...

Advantages: great acting, directing, funny and brutal Disadvantages: none
Chopper is a critcally acclaimed australian film that depicts the life of one of the countries most notorious criminals. His name-Mark "Chopper" Read. The film tells it's story through flashbacks to a time when chopper was serving once of his prison sentences. On first introduction this is a man who has a very sly sense of humour but a deep underlying vicious streak that can explode at any moment. right frmo the opening scenes we get a stark contrast ... ...Once on the outside Chopper tries to adapt and watch his back as people look to get some revenge although they are in complete fear of the man. The only man who seems to subdue Chopper is his father who seems to have love for his son but shows in a loose way. This is where we really get to know the man as he is out in some situations that see him be all smiles one minute and very brutal and intimidating the next. Through his casual pub meetings with ...

I managed to purchase chopper a few weeks back and watched it straight away, once it finished I was left flabergasted at how such a brilliant film had received such little attention in the U.K.
Chopper is the story of one of australias most famous criminals "chopper" read, a self proclaimed blokes bloke and a walking talking nutcase.
Story : Following his early days in prison where chopper kills a man and is almost killed by his best mate, chopper ... ...his way.
Cast : Chopper is played by Eric Bana( Hulk, Troy ), and is brilliant, he brings so much humour and authenticity to the role, which persuades the audience to want this classic anti-hero to suceed. As the DVD puts it " chopper is funny, fascinating and features a show stopping central performance from Eric Bana, Australia's top stand up comedian. This is highlighted in my favourite scene where he tells the cops " why would I take him to ...

Advantages: Reality t.v at it's best. Watch the creation of custom bikes. Disadvantages: If you dont like motorbikes it's not for you.
Ive always loved motorbikes (I know I dont look the type) despite the fact Ive never been on one and certainly wouldnt be brave enough to learn to ride, so when I stumbled on the American Chopper series on the discovery channel I was immediately hooked, I think the combination of the amazing creativity and design of the bikes combined with the sometimes hilarious warring between the family has kept me addicted to the show.
However since moving into my own home and being unable to afford the luxuries of sky tv I am limited to watching the series on dvd (I do have the first set in the series and will review it as soon as I can find it!)
The series is set at Orange County Choppers, owned by Paul Teutal Senior, a motorcycle company specialising in Chopper motorcycles and custom designs. We follow the crew which includes Paul Sr, his ...
Advantages: Side-splittingly funny for fans of this genre Disadvantages: You won't like it if you're not a fan of cheesy films and raucous humour
true exploitation-type, a mixture of amateurishness and over-exaggerative ham. The characters are all total cliches and stereotypes: the Cycle Sluts are convincingly larger-than-life sluttish, the sarcastic blind teenagers are ultra-scathing and contemptuous, and the mad doctor and his dwarf assistant are straight out of every 1930s and 1940s horror B-movie. I love it.
And of course, the icing on the cake is a very young Billy Bob Thornton in one of his first-ever roles. Here he plays a redneck in the small town, where he proves to be an on-again-often-again boyfriend to one of the Cycle Sluts. He looks endearingly boyish and gormless, with his full (ish) head of hair and chubby cheeks.
This film has a good hard rock soundtrack, as a biker movie should have! There are no extras on the DVD I have, which has the same cover as the DVD ...
Advantages: 3 classics in one Disadvantages: Excessive violence and brutality may be too much to handle for some
evident, and it's all through the breakup of a friendship due to a female love interest (which actually in theory would support fascist ideas).
It's definately a film to make your own mind up about, not short of any violence or brutality, Crowe performs exceptionally well as Hando one of the main roles and he gives a simply frightening and aggressive edge to a character who needed those two traits to a tee.
A decent film that is held up by a good main role performance and a gripping storyline.
CHOPPER - Based on a true story, the life of Mark Reede, a nut case who battles his way needlessly through small time gangsters.
Although i enjoyed this film immensly, i preferred the book. Again, a very violent film and probably the most brutal out of the three. As this is a life story, it seems to me like more of a biography about a very ...

DVD Description
Australian comedian Eric Bana is Mark Chopper Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his best-selling autobiography, FROM THE INSIDE, while serving a murder sentence in prison. Beginning in the blue-washed light of a maximum security Melbourne prison, Chopper establishes his dominance with the impulsive knifing of a fellow prisoner. Vaccillating between violence and regret, Chopper apologises to his victim, but his good mate Jimmy (Simon Lyndon) later retaliates against Chopper in an excruciating contract stabbing, rife with sexual tension. Finally released from prison, the heavily-tattooed Chopper has lost the better part of both of his ears, as well as the ability to make any distinction between his own made-up stories and reality. At a nightclub with his prostitute girlfriend, Tanya (Kate Beahan), he runs into Neville (Vince Colosimo), an old victim who limps from the attack but glitters in drug-funded gold. In his paranoia, Chopper connects rumours of a new contract on his life to Neville, Tanya, and his old mate Jimmy, to whom he pays a visit and discovers a man rotting from drug abuse. Alternately wickedly funny and grotesque, CHOPPER gives no easy answer to the question of Chopper Read's motives, but his method is clear, 'Ya bash people for no reason, just to get a name for yourself'.
