Children of men was the first film in ages that I had seen a trailer for and been desperate to see the movie. This was a while ago now and I have seen the movie three times since and loved it as much each time. Having watched it again over the weekend I decided to review it in case any of you out there have missed out on watching it.
The movie ☆☆☆☆☆☆
The year is 2027 and the world has not seen the birth of a new child in 18 years, the youngest inhabitant on the planet has just died and mankind appears to be facing extinction. Theodore Faron (Clive Owen) is a civil servant who is tasked with arranging the safe transport of a young woman named Kee (Claire-Hope Ashitey) to the safe haven of the Human Project.
With London firmly in the middle of civil war, racial unrest and mindless violence this will prove to be no easy task but as Theo learns the task is a very important one. Kee is not just another young girl seeking a hiding place from what’s going on all around her she is pregnant and therefore holds the key to the survival of the human race.
Theo is unsure who he can trust with this information but knows he needs help to get Kee to the project safely where hopefully she will give birth not only to her child but to hope for humanity. Theo trusts in an old friend and aging hippie Jasper Palmer and together they set about keeping Kee safe and keeping her pregnancy a secret from everyone along the way. Their journey is a constant fight for survival. Who can be trusted? Who can keep a secret?
I was kept entertained and intrigued by this movie from beginning to end. It is a fast paced movie with plenty of action and lots to think about. It is mostly acted very well and the outcome is that this fantastic story is put across to the audience they way I believe it was meant to be.
Although it is obviously complete science fiction it is a very interesting concept and makes you wonder if this is indeed how mankind would act if faced with its own extinction. No attempt to help each other or to face what lies ahead together in unity but to turn to an every man for himself attitude and try to destroy our world and each other before Mother Nature could.

Would I recommend?
It’s easy to recommend a horror movie to a horror fan or a western to a western fan but when a movie is as original as this there are no actual fans to recommend to. That however is not a problem with this movie; I just recommend it to everyone. No matter what type of movie you usually enjoy I am more than sure that Children of men will be a movie which you will enjoy, both the concept of the movie and the excellent acting within it will keep you glued to your seat for the entire 109 minute runtime.
The only complaint I have with this DVD and it is a very minor one is that like many DVD’s these days the music and the background noise tends to be louder than the voices so although I needed it quite loud at times to hear what was being said I would then be deafened by the noise of gunshot, Car chases and the background music. Don’t let that put you off in any way though; this is a fantastic movie which you should definitely watch.
If you take the time to watch this movie I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
