Released in late 1988 this supernatural horror film used a seemingly innocent child's toy as a sadistic unstoppable killing machine.
**BRIEF PLOT**
When detective Mike Norris, (played by Chris Sarandon) pursues and corners Charles Lee Ray, {aka 'Chucky'}, the evil "Lakeshore Strangler," (played by Brad Dourif), Ray unleashes more than he can handle as before he dies he uses an ancient voodoo ritual to transport his soul into a nearby child's toy 'Good Guy Doll'.
Meanwhile, a young boy named Andy Barclay, (played by Alex Vincent), wants a Good guy doll for his forthcoming birthday. His mother Karen, (played by Catherine Hicks), happens upon one from a drifter as the shop sells out fast of these highly sought dolls. It just so happens that the Doll Karen buys is the same doll Charles Lee was holding before he died, leading to some heinous horrors for Andy and his family.
'Chucky' the doll is out for revenge on the people who caused his premature death and is using young Andy, together with the powers of voodoo to do his deeds, So, with a manic doll on the loose, killing anyone that gets in its way, there are not many people who can believe what is happening until it starts to happen to them, and by then it may be too late.
**IN CONCLUSION**
A great horror movie with a fantastically added feature of the maniac being a funny looking child's toy. 'Chucky', as the doll likes to be called, turns out to be a dab hand with a hammer and a hunting knife whilst still looking like a little lovable cuddly toy. Although not something you'd want in your home, especially near the kitchen knives.
It is another movie of good verses bad, cops verses robbers, but with a bit of a difference as the 'bad' 'robber' is something out of the ordinary, in fact, totally out of the ordinary....
The movie does stretch the boundaries of reality as the lunatic doll begins his slaughter, the camera views giving the audience the impression that they are looking through Chucky's eyes... low level at knee height, slicing at peoples tendons, using the power of disbelief to distract his victims before he strikes.
This mad-cap movie has everything one wants, the usual romantic scenarios, the chase scenes and together with a comical side of seeing a childs toy coming alive and viciously attacking people, screaming like a demonic rag doll with a thirst for blood, it is a must see for everyone.
Would I recommend this movie...?
Hell yes... it is no doubt a fine movie as long as you realise that this movie is not intended to be taken too seriously....simply enjoy the comical horror as the funny looking doll runs amok in the suburbs.
If you want to get a copy then you can get it from www.amazon.co.uk for less than a fiver, which for the amount of comical entertainment iin the movie is well worth the money
Advantages: Excellent film good acting Disadvantages: A little gorey and controversial
...as there are four more Child's play films.
**********************************************************************
The film is basically about a killer on the run that gets shot by police and before he dies he transfers his soul into a popular toy doll a 'good guy doll' using voodoo magic. As the killer charles lee ray stays in the plastic body it starts to become human. He then uses Andy, (the little boy who recieves the doll as a birthday present) ... ...something quite wrong about a child's doll that goes on a killing spree. The film eradicates the innocence of a toy and replaces it with evil and torture, two things that should never go hand in hand.
There was much controversy regarding this film as it was linked to the two monsters who murdered poor little James Bulger. This link was made by the Sun newspaper although no inextreicable link was made. So I would not recommend this film to anyone ...

Advantages: entertaining Disadvantages: SFX
This classic horror mixes slasher with voodoo. A serial killer named Charles Lee Ray uses voodoo to transfer his soul into a 'Good Guy' doll...
Its Andy's birthday and what does he get? you guessed it, a good guy doll. the doll is named Chucky and from there he starts his killing spree. Charles Lee is able to transfer his soul into the body of the first person that discovers his identity. Andy being with the doll all the time finds his doll to be ... ...safe? does Charles transfer his soul?
This movie released 20 years ago still amazes me with its good story line and classic slasher status amoungst horror fans. I have all the DVD's and have watched them many times, this is one of my favourite horror movies but be aware of the below average SFX. From the car chase to the blood, you will not be disappointed by our small iconic doll. ...

Advantages: Informative, interesting in parts and easy to relate to Disadvantages: Does not capture full attention, lost concentration
...I bought this DVD as a school resource as I felt it would be useful for an art project with the theme of Architecture. I was fairly impressed with parts but it did not keep my full attention for the whole 83 minutes.
The DVD was priced at £8.98 from Amazon.co.uk, I felt this was quite a reasonable price.
Frank Gehry creates simple line sketches which become the most unusual and amazing pieces of architecture, one of his most famous pieces is the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
Gehry's style is appealing to children and gives them confidence that they can achieve good outcomes from similar work.
I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who is interested in architecture and Gehry's "child-play style", it shows the development from simple initial sketches to the quality build outcomes to amaze the public's eyes.

Advantages: Interesting concept | More about the frights than the blood Disadvantages: Looks dated now
...Toys are evil. They can change the way people act and think, making once normal and rational people act like people possessed. Who can forget the craze for Buzz Lightyear or the Furby's or those damned Tamagotchi's? Making parents queue for hours on end, selling their souls just to make their kids happy on Christmas day then for the toy to sit and gather dust all the other days of the year. Of course some toys are really, really evil. Chucky the not-so-nice doll, for example, isn't the kind of toy you'd leave your kid to play with because Chucky doesn't play nice at all.
The Child's Play begins on a dark night where Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) is in pursuit of the nasty criminal Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif). After both trying to kill each other but failing the chase ends up in a toyshop where Norris finally makes a direct hit...
