In the first movie, a "Good Guy" doll by the name of Chucky (Voiced by Brad Dourif), possessed by killer, Charles Lee Ray, found it's way to young owner,Andy, and soon set out on a murderous spree, while trying to transfer is own soul out of the doll and into Andy. The dolls plot was foiled and he was destroyed.
In the sequel "Child's Play 2", Andy is in care, and has convinced himself that the whole incident was just a figment of his imagination, and that it couldn't possibly have really happened. And his mother is also undergoing physchiatric help, due to her making the same claims of a killer doll.
Andy is taken in by foster parents, who are also caring for a teenage girl called Kyle (Christine Elise). In his new room, he is looking at his new toys and a "Good Guy" doll falls out of the closet, and after realising that it's something from his past, the foster parents, take it out of the room. And he then settles in his new home.
Not long after, Chucky finds out where Andy is staying, and set out to the location, to once again attempt to transfer his sole into the child, before he is trapped inside the body of a doll forever.
Cue lot's of gory inventive deaths, and plenty of dark humour. As he kills basically anyone who is in a scene with just chucky.
Towards the end of the movie is probably the best part of the film, as Andy and Kyle end up in the factory where the dolls are originally made, and the director makes good use of the atmosphere to make it slightly scarier than the rest of the film, and have lots of ways where the characters could possibly be killed, including Chucky.
The film itself isn't really anything special, but it's not the worse in the series, sequels such as Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky in my opinion spoilt the whole franchise, and I only watched this DVD because I originally watched it when I was about 5 years old, due to older step-brothers/sisters, and at that time it was terrifying, and I still thought of it as scary throughout the years, until I watched it again, and saw how it's more of a comedy than a horror, and that the things I found scary when I was younger, we're more scary due to the fact that over the years my memory of the actual things that happened had changed, and I'd made it more scary than it actually was.
The acting in the film is pretty mediocre, with the voice of Brad Dourif has Chucky stealing the show, which is witty one liners and dark humour. Andy (Alex Vincent), was possibly the worse child actors of his day and his performance, didn't really create the atmoshphere that the director tried to make. Christine Elise, didn't really light up the screen too, with her typical american-rebel teenager act a little outdated, possibly due to the film being 18 years old though.
Overall not a bad film, and in my opinion, on par with the original "Child's Play" but twice has good as the following sequels based on the doll.
3 out of 5 stars.
