Trouble is brewing down on Mrs Tweedy's poultry farm: the chickens are revolting (yes ... more
that old chestnut) and clucky hen Ginger (voiced by Julia Sawalha) is planning her latest coop um coup. Getting one or two birds out of the farm is no problem whatsoever. Unfortunately Ginger plans to get everyone out at the same time and when one of the would-be escapees happens to be kind-hearted but bird-brained Babs (Jane Horrocks) Ginger is fighting a losing battle. Despotic owner Mrs Tweedy (Miranda Richardson) plans to turn the birds into the tender filling of her new range of homemade chicken pies and is waiting until the hens have fattened up. Ginger knows that time is of the essence but every daring scheme ends in disaster. Ginger needs a miracle. And fast. As she contemplates her next escape attempt with Scottish engineering genius Mac (Lynn Ferguson) Ginger sees their salvation in the form of a rooster named Rocky (Mel Gibson) if the cocksure Rocky can teach all of the hens how to fly then they can all fly out of Tweedy's clutches before she gives them the chop.

Created by the same creators as Wallace and Gromit its fantastic. It was released in 2000 and is still a film I watch again and again.
It is based on a farm in the 50's which has been made to look like a prison of war camp and it is run by Mr and Mrs Tweedy, two evil people who are expanding into making chicken pies, which is not good news for the chickens.

This film is funny and will have you laughing from start to finish.
Advantages: great film well made characters.very funny Disadvantages: None
very good animation. Nick park is great. this film is funny but also has some sad parts. a very well made good family film. no bad language and has a very good story line that is carried out throughout the whole film and does not stray from the story. the characters were good and some were funny looking but overall very well presented. it is very good value for money. it compares well to wallace and gromit but nothing can beat wllace and gromit but this is quite close. if you want a good family film then this is the film to choose.

Advantages: Great story, great cast. Disadvantages: It had to end..didn't want it to
ChickenRun was released on video and DVD in 2000 and is a feature length animation from Aardman studios: The Nick Park led outfit that bought us Wallace and Gromit and Creature Comforts. It is described officially as a "claymation" film, rather than "Animation", because the characters are made of clay rather than drawn.
I was a bit dubious at first because, although Wallace and Gromit has become a classic, could Nick Park sustain this throughout a film length story? ChickenRun lasts for approximately 81 minutes, so I wondered if I would be bored with cartoon characters after this length of time.
My worries were unfounded - ChickenRun is Chicken fun! After about ten minutes I had forgotten that the characters were animated (sorry - CLAYMATED") and I could have sworn that they were real. The attention to detail on the sets is ...

DVD Description
Facing imminent death while laying eggs at Tweedy's English farm, a group of chickens led by the determined Ginger (Julia Sawahla, BBC-TV's ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS) plan to escape their prisonlike coop. The situation goes from bad to worse when the sinister Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson) decides to stop selling eggs and use the hens as the main ingredient in chicken pot pies. However, some hope literally falls from the sky in the form of Rocky (Mel Gibson), an American rooster who promises to teach the chickens how to fly. As the hens begin their struggle to get airborne, the monstrous pie-making machine arrives, giving the chickens precious little time to make their great escape. Aardman Studios' first full-length feature film is a stunning showcase of stop-motion animation. Utilizing the unique Plasticine designs of the acclaimed WALLACE & GROMIT and CREATURE COMFORT shorts, CHICKEN RUN features vibrant visuals and colorful characters that are immediately endearing. (The naive and constantly knitting Babs, voiced by Jane Horrocks, is particularly hilarious.) With its clever writing, witty film references, and pitch-perfect combination of comedy, drama, and romance, CHICKEN RUN is one of those rare movies that genuinely appeals to viewers of every age.
