Just another one opinion on "Chicken run" , wasnt going to write it as 250 others have been there already, so what does that tell you about this film?
I must have been the only person in Great Britain until lastnight that had never been lucky enough to see this wonderfuly funny and clever film.
Produced by Nick Park , more famed for his 'Wallace and Grommit' films , this film contains all the same elements of humour and cleverly animated plasticine characters as his previous films, and even has guest voices such as Mel gibson (Rocky the rooster) and Julia Sawalha (Ginger).
The story is about a bunch of chickens, destined to spend thier lives producing eggs for a farmer and his really evil wife, and woe betide any chicken that cant produce as they end up on the dinner plate!!
Try explaining that to a 4 year old!
The escape scenes in this film are very reminniscant of such films as The Great Escape and other world war II films, even the chickens end up in 'The cooler'!
Well as thier attempts to escape keep being thwarted by the farmer and his dogs all looks pretty bleak, until the unannounced arrival of ROCKY the rooster.
He appears one night over the fence and has all the chikens believing that he can actually fly. When his owners turn up looking for him he panics and makes a deal with 'Ginger' (a leader of chickens) that he will teach them to fly if they provide safety for him.
The film becomes mopre humerous now as Rocky has all the chickens doing aerobics and jumping from the top of the chicken coops.
The Farmer and his 'evil ' wife no longer make enough money from the eggs, so the next plan is to start making chicken pies.
Once the pie machine turns up the need for the chickens to escape becomes more frantic, but Rocky does a bunk and sets off around the countryside on a 3 wheel tricycle...until.....he passes a sign advertising chicken pies, gets a guilt complex and goes back to the farm, just in time to rescue 'Ginger' as she was about to become the Farmers first chicken pie!
Rocky's secret is now discovered that the only way he can fly is out of a cannon! So now he has lost the faith of the chickens (but they all still fancy him) its up to ginger to come up with a solution.
Finding the discarded medal from an ex-RAF cockerel, she goes to see him and asks about building a plane. The chickens set to work, with items gained from the farmer by the use of rats payed with eggs, and soon they have built a massive chicken powered plane!
Theres obviousley a lot more to this story than I am telling you, but I dont really want to spoil the ending, but anyway, the whole 80 minutes I sat glued to the screen and laughed about every 5 minutes.
Needless to say though , the baddies get thier come uppance, and the good guys live to lay another egg!
Its a superb smash hit of a film and cant believe I waited so long to watch it,everything about this film is just magical, all the characters are so strong and its a really original concept.
Definatley worth spending £3 on Sky box office and no doubt even worth buying the video (I dont have a DVD player yet)
Its a definate classic!!
