I was really looking forward to seeing Chicken Run after the long wait we've had since Toy Story 2 for a quality animated film. The kind o film that appeals to all audiences, has a good story, is funny, and everyone comes out with a smile on their faces. Well not Chicken Run.
Its wonderfully made, and every detail of the film is well conceived and put together, but at the heart of the film is the same cliche that made Babe so unbearable - its about death.
I'm no animal lover, but seriously, walking out of the cinema to find people gobbling pies n chips made me feel rough. Poor little things, one day you're living a nice life getting laid and laying eggs, next day you're wrapped in pastry and half way down som fat bloke's gullett. Its reality, but sometimes its not what you want to see at the pictures. American History X - at least with that film you half expected what you saw, but I thought Chicken Run was going to be a light hearted comedy (Mel Gibson is in it - what else could it be???).
The film certification board should have some way of making it apparent that films may contain these kind of disturbing themes. They could call them UD or something.
