Facing imminent death while laying eggs at Tweedy's English farm, a group of chickens led by the determined Ginger (Julia Sawahla, BBC-TV's ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS) plan to escape...
more...their prisonlike coop. The situation goes from bad to worse when the sinister Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson) decides to stop selling eggs and use the hens as the main ingredient in chicken pot pies. However, some hope literally falls from the sky in the form of Rocky (Mel Gibson), an American rooster who promises to teach the chickens how to fly. As the hens begin their struggle to get airborne, the monstrous pie-making machine arrives, giving the chickens precious little time to make their great escape.
Aardman Studios' first full-length feature film is a stunning showcase of stop-motion animation. Utilizing the unique Plasticine designs of the acclaimed WALLACE & GROMIT and CREATURE COMFORT shorts, CHICKEN RUN features vibrant visuals and colorful characters that are immediately endearing. (The naive and constantly knitting Babs, voiced by Jane Horrocks, is particularly hilarious.) With its clever writing, witty film references, and pitch-perfect combination of comedy, drama, and romance, CHICKEN RUN is one of those rare movies that genuinely appeals to viewers of every age.

After watching Chicken Run at £1 per view at my Students Union film showing, I told myself, Wow! I'm gonna get the DVD!
And frankly, I'm not disappointed at all once I got hold of one. Here what I've to say about Chicken Run:

THE FILM
~~~~~~~~
The movie is a brilliant animated movie created by exceptional Claymation techniques in filmmaking.(the best there is!) The enthusiastic story line brings to life the Claymation characters, giving each of the chickens a role that is unforgettably witty and humorous.
The story begins in a small British chicken farm, run by the Tweedys. It's a run down farm with a prison-like atmosphere (at least for the chickens!). The chicken coops are kept within barbed wires and always under the watchful eye of the farmer and guard dog. The heroine in this movie is a courageous hen by the name of Ginger (voiced beautifully by Julie Sawalha). Her goal is to escape the dreadful farm and go in search of freedom and a good place to live. She always manages to execute a perfect solo escape but the only problem is to escape together with the rest of the chickens!
The film starts off with a comedy of errors as Ginger tries her damnedest to escape with the rest of the chickens. Plan after plan fails and lands her in solitary confinement by the farmer each time. The antics of the other chickens are really hilarious, especially when you learn about their 'whacked' perspective of life.
The directors for Chicken Run are none other than the creators of the television series Wallace And Gromit, that is Nick Park and Peter Lord. If you love Wallace and Gromit, then Chicken Run would not disappoint you at all!
In Chicken Run, Park and Lord together with Aardman Animations, created every movement, from the blink of an eye to a flap of a wing, one frame at a time using clay (thus named the Claymation technique). And an entire day's work results in only a few seconds of film! Now we understand why the successful production alone of Chicken Run is so amazing!!
Mel Gibson(great piece of work--again!) does the voice for the cocky American rooster by the name of Rocky, who flies or rather, crash-lands into the chicken farm. The plot from then on only gets 'whackier' as Rocky helps Ginger and the flock to fly towards freedom! The supporting comedians in this movie are two funny little rats who play the role of tool suppliers for the chickens. This is a great action-filled comedy and one heck of a Claymation production. Who would have ever thought that plasticine and clay could be this interesting! I know I do!
~~~~~~~~~~
