So what if this film isn't a Pixar created picture. It's still a cute little tale that is fun for the younger crowd to check out. Granted, it doesn't have the emotional movements that are found in most of the older Disney flicks out there, but the Pixar films weren't that moving either. In fact, when CGI became the focus of most film studios, plot fell to the wayside and gee-whiz effects took center stage.
"Chicken Little" isn't for everyone. The story is rather simple, but then again, this movie is for children. The sky has literally fallen on Chicken Little and his father and the community of Oakey Oaks have turned their collective backs on him. He's been turned into a laughing stock. That is, until the sky falls on him again about a year later and aliens attempt to take over the planet. I won't give much more information away, since it'll ruin this little film.
There are a ton of voice talents scattered throughout this flick. Zach Braff heads up a cast of voices that include Garry Marshall, Joan Cusack, Steve Zahn, and a number of other wonderful talents.
The animation is pretty good. Sure, it isn't as vibrant and snappy as Pixar's flicks, but it is sufficient enough to move this tale along. The film runs about eighty minutes, but it moves very fast. Also, there are a few scenes of violence that may turn off the younger crowd, though this violence is shown to be little more than a visual effect in the end.
As for the adults, they'll get a few laughs out of this film, but not as many as the children. Don't get me wrong, this film will be enjoyed by all, but adults can expect the humor and action to be on a lighter level.
In short, this is a very cute little film that is perfect for the young crowd. Just be prepared to explain a couple of the scenes to them, especially those involving the alien invasion, and the entire family will be sure to enjoy this new Disney film.
