I watched Cherry Falls tonight on video, so thought I would write an op while it's fresh in my mind. A friend and I wanted a light weight horror film - and this was certainly that!
There are no big names in the film - my friend, who is a bit of a film buff, thought she recognised a few of the characters from other films, but that was about it! I'd never seen any of them in my life before!
Cherry Falls, like so many other films these days, is set in an American High School, in the town of Cherry Falls. Its central character is Jodie, whose father is the town's Sheriff. Two high school students, friends of Jodie's, are murdered by a slasher at a local make-out spot, and the Sheriff is immediately on the case. Two more deaths follow, and a connection is made: all the victims were virgins. This for a start is quite ridiculous, as surely being a virgin at the age of 15 or 16 is not THAT unusual, but the Police seem to pick up on this immediately.
Anyway, back to the plot. Jodie herself is pursued by the slasher but manages to get away (no surprises there, seeing as she's the main character!) and is able to give a photo fit image to the police. Soon, the killings are being linked to a local girl who disappeared 25 years ago. Jodie researches this and finds out some shocking information about the events leading up to the girl's disappearance...
Meanwhile, the other students are intent on protecting themselves - by losing their virginity! A "Pop Your Cherry" party is arranged (at which we discover that most of the students seem to be virgins, making the Police's albeit correct assumption on the motive behind the killings even more laughable!) and all the students are pairing off - Jodie's search for the killer soon converges with the party - with (unintentionally!) hilarious consequences!
This film is your average teen horror fodder, but unfortunately takes itself far too seriously. There is not even a hint of irony - which has been the vital ingredient in a lot of the recent successful slash and stalk flicks. The plot is okay, but predictable. I won't give away the killer, but an early stab in the dark (no pun intended) from me of "I wonder if it's him/her" was correct! There are a couple of surprises, but certainly nothing worth watching to the end for! In a genre which seems overrun by new releases these days a film really does have to have something special in order to stand out, and this one really does not.

I've seen this in the video shop and considered renting it but I won't ever bother now as your op makes it clear that it is crap.

i read the cover of this in the video store the other day and thought it was an interesting concept.I think I'll give it a miss as its obviously aimed at the American market who seem easier to please than us fickle Brits. Thanks for the op.
