carry guns. They're Secret Service agents assigned to protect the First Daughter. And they're really hampering Anna's hope of a normal teen life. She's the President's daughter. But she just wants to be herself. Multi-talented Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember) makes her romantic comedy debut as Anna, who finally gets Dad (Mark Harmon) to reduce the number of agents while she goes to a music club. But when Anna arrives at the club and realises her father has backed out of the deal, she ditches the agents and goes on the run with Ben, a handsome photographer she meets. Anna doesn't tell Ben who she is. But Ben (newcomer Matthew Goode) has a secret of his own.WHAT A GIRL WANTS:Amanda Bynes (Big Fat Liar, The Amanda Show) stars as Daphne, an irrepressible American teen who impulsively jets over the Pond to meet the aristocratic father (Colin Firth of Bridget Jones's Diary) she never knew. Determined to fit into dad's world, Daphne stifles her vibrant personality to be the perfect debutante while plunging into a whirl of garden parties, fashion shows and more. Can good intentions and proper etiquette conquer all? Not if that means Daphne must also abandon who she really is. She's going to remain true to herself. And she's doing it with the smarts and courage every girl wants to see. You go, girl!

What I firstly noticed about the DVD cover was the couple on the front. I loved the way Moore's leg was laying over Goode's... so casual yet so full of meaning too. The backdrop of Europe was gorgeous too - as is Matthew Goode might I add!
This film is all about Anna Foster (Mandy Moore - singer and actress) who is the First Daughter - the President's daughter. She is a teenage girl who just wants to live and experience life like all other girls her age can. She want's to date, drink alcohol, go to clubs, and have fun but she is finding it impossible with her father's Secret Service agents following her every move. In every other way she is the perfect First Daughter, so Anna thinks her Dad (Mark Harmon) owes her some slack while on a family trip to Europe, and gets him to agree to allowing her to a music club with a friend with only two agents.
However while at the club Anna soon realises the place is crawling with agents and escapes into the night. She bumps into handsome photographer Ben (Matthew Goode) and he drives her off into the night and to some freedom.
The scenery in this film is astonishing... it is set in several European cities such as Prague, Berlin and Venice which I feel just adds to the romance and appeal of this film.
Mandy Moore is a very convincing actress and plays her fun-loving but down-to-earth character with ease. I actually watched this film without firstly realising who she was, and would never have guessed she was a "singer turned actress" by her performance.
Matthew Goode however is a new actor and sometimes you feel this during the film, but I wouldn't say it affected the films enjoyment factor at all. I feel Goode will definately go places as he is talented and frankly very gorgeous too! All the girls will love him in this film.
I bought this film only a month or so ago and have already watched it 3 times - one of these was with the commentary which was by Moore and Goode. The DVD also has several other extra features - a Passport To Europe documentary, Roots concernt, Deleted Scenes and a Gag Reel.
If you love romantic comedies, and "chick flicks" then I'd highly recommend this film. Perfect for a night in with the girls!
Advantages: Solid feel good film Disadvantages: Quite predictable
If you like a good chicky-flicky, romance then this is for you. The acting is good, as is the story line. It is however predictable. I found myself sitting watching the film feeling as though i had already seen it. And then i realised i had! well, i hadnt but there is a similar film 'First daughter' which i had coincidently watched a few weeks before with my friends.
Don't get me wrong i did enjoy the film but it just seemed a bit too samey. As ... ...deal...
The basic story line is about the presidents daughter wanting to lead a normal life, but finding the constant following of guards and the secret service too much. She therefore decides to rebel against her dad and go to the love parade in berlin, meeting strangers on the way. Before this however she meets a 'stranger' who helps her escape from her guards...what she doesnt know however is that he is too part of the secret service there to ...

Advantages: Sterling cast and genuine heartwarming moments Disadvantages: The story here is a tad unoriginal
Young Anna Foster (Mandy Moore) dreams of what every teen girl dreams to live a normal life... that and get layed of course! Anna is extremely lonely dispite teh fact she is never ever alone; having grown up only knowing a life in the media spotlight as daughter to the most powerful man in the world, the president of the united states. Ben soon finds she more of a handful than he first expected. With special agents in tow and a race through europe you never know what to expect next in this light hearted romantic comedy adventure.
All sound a little familiar?
It may well do if you had the unfortunate displeasure of watching the first daughter released the same year. inspite of first daughters list of hollywood names including Tom Cruises ...

Pop songstress Mandy Moore (A WALK TO REMEMBER) makes another big-screen splash with CHASING LIBERTY, a charming romantic comedy. Moore is Anna Foster (aka Liberty), daughter of the President of the United States, James Foster (Mark Harmon). Fed up with the overprotective secret service men that follow her around every second, Anna finally decides to cut loose. While on vacation in Europe she goes to a live performance of the hip-hop band The Roots and then escapes on a motorcycle with a cute photographer, Ben Calder (Matthew Goode). But what she doesn't realize is that Ben is actually a secret service agent himself who is under strict orders to act like a regular guy in order to provide the illusion that Anna is on her own for the first time in her life. As the pair journeys from Prague to Venice to the Love Parade festival in Berlin, Anna finds herself falling in love with Ben. At the same time, the agents on her trail (Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra) find the same thing happening to them. Though the well-intentioned Ben does his best to keep Anna at a polite distance without crossing any romantic lines, it eventually becomes clear that he too is falling for her, complicating the situation. With CHASING LIBERTY, Moore once again proves her undeniably charismatic screen presence.
