Well this one was a little different, I mean this is a Kevin Smith movie right?, of course it is, but its just that it doesn't have as many comedy moments as the other three in his collection, but does that mean its not that good? Well the answer? its not that bad, but it certainly isn't Smiths best.
Out of all 4 Kevin Smith movies, this one has the strongest storyline, we start off by meeting Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) and Banky Edwards (Jason Lee) the creators of the comicbook Chronic and Bluntman based on Jay and Silent Bob, after A long time of dialogue we are introduced to Hooper Lamont (Dwight Ewell) and Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams), two more comic-book writers.
As the movie trundles on it becomes Holden has fallen for Alyssa, but theres only one problem - Alyssa is a lesbian, much hilarity prevails right? well there is some but not much anyway onto the movie itself, cast list time -
Holden (Ben Affleck): Well obviously hes the main character here, and he has a few of the more emotional scenes with Alyssa, even if they are spiced with a little bit of comedy, now we all know Ben Afflecks ability, hes a great actor as he is here and now in this movie, always putting in a good performance, perhaps not his best (we'll save that one for Mallrats), but still a strong performance.
Banky (Jason Lee): The main comedy character of the movie, and if it wasn't for him this one wouldn't have got as many stars as it did. See Jason Lee is one of my favourite actors of all time, and he definitely doesn't disappoint here, with some of the best comedy lines in the movie he puts in one of his best on-screen performances.
Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams): Damn that voice is squeaky, and it puts you off the character a bit, but still at the end of the day Adams can't really change her voice, so we'll let her off this time, she does try hard to make it in this movie, but somethings just not right, I can't put my finger on it but theres definitely something not there.
Hooper (Dwight Ewell): Not much is seen of this man, but when he does appear the mood of the movie instantly gets lighter, A very funny character, made better by brilliant acting, A laugh a minute and never out of place, a very worthy performance.
Now there are some other appearances, Jay and Silent Bob do get one scene, as does Matt Damon, but these four are the main people we will all see on screen and put them all together then you get a pretty decent movie.
Locations wise, well this time we're travelling all over New Jersey, and it does actually work very well - none of the scenes are in 'the wrong place' and theres not much that can be said about the whole placing of the scenes.
Music wise, again theres not that much to call home about, its there, its in the background, it doesn't force itself on the movie and it all works pretty well, but still nothing Special.
Final analysis of the movie well if you've just got finished watching Dogma and are looking for more of the same, you're looking in the wrong place, try looking in Clerks direction instead, see this isn't as strong in the comedy Terms as the other 3 Kevin Smith movies, its still good - but great? Sorry, No.

hmmm, I wouldn't even say good - Adams voice drove me up the wall, Banky's incessent whining was almost as bad. Acting good, storyline - weak. Film? Unmemorable!!!BUT NEVER FORGET THE VOICE!!!!!! Clare

Wasn't overly impressed with this film. Jay and Silent Bob ROCK and bring light to the dullest cinematic experience, though! FBx

Review of Chasing Amy (DVD)
Advantages: hilarious, character centred, very witty dialogue Disadvantages: The story doesn't really come across as appealing. Possibly bad word of mouth with the lack of success at the box office
