I have recently purchased the Charmed Series 1 DVD box set off eBay.
My purchase was an item that I had wanted for a very long time, but had put off buying because when it came out it was so expensive - £39.99 for six DVDS. However, you can now get it in the shops for about £19.99 or cheaper if you are really lucky. However on eBay it can be really cheap to get a slightly used copy. I got mine for under £10, and the seller threw in Series 2 as the cover was missing!
Anyway to get back to the actual DVD's - Charmed is a series about 3 ordinary sisters called Halliwell, who wake up one day to discover that they are actually witches! Good ones, of course. The TV series takes you through their exploits and adventures.
I was amazed when I started watching this to discover that I hadn't actually ever seen the first episode of this, even when watching the repeats. This series was originally on Channel 4 and moved to Channel 5.
Shannen Doherty (from Beverley Hills 90210) stars as Pru, and she has two sisters Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano - who also has edited/directed some of the series). There are several regular stars, particularly Andy and his cop partner. In addition, there are several guest stars who play ghosts, devils/demons, and other unusual mythical creatures.
You also get "innocents" who the 3 sisters have to protect from the "evil" doers, by invoking the Power of Three. One can freeze time and people, one can move things (telekinesis) and the other has the power to see the future (or sometimes past events).
The 3 sisters start to understand and use their magical powers and eventually enhance them as the series progresses. Each episode has humour, suspense and a supernatural type adventure. Original episodes were shown from October 7 1998, but transferring them to DVD they have lost none of their magic - no pun intended.
My favourite episode in this series is "The Truth is out there and it hurts", but this episode also made me cry like a baby, because Pru and Andy split up.
I really enjoy watching this series, and am now eagerly looking out for Series 3 to purchase, as I would like to buy all 8 series.
This series DVD is a rating 12 - because it contains moderate threat, violence and supernatural horror.
