We are introduced to 3 sisters, Prue (Shannon Doherty), Piper (Holly-Marie Coombs) and Phoebe (Alysa Milano) who discover that upon the death of their grandmother and their reunion in ‘The Manor’ they have magic powers and are in fact witches. Prue can move objects with her mind, Piper can freeze objects and Phoebe get premonitions. As the series’ progress their powers expand and they become able to do other things like levitate and blow up things!
I love this programme! Holly-Marie Coombs brings some fantastic comedy to this first series, especially considering her fiancé is really a demon waiting for her to get her powers so he can kill her! Shannon Doherty’s brings a firm authoritative but fun approach to the character of Prue, who works at an auction house, her knowledge of artefacts is useful in their demon detection work. Alyssa Milano’s character Phoebe is at first bypassed by her sisters especially Prue, as she is the bad sheep of the family, however when the power of three is truly established, the link between the Sisters grows strong, which is what makes them so powerful.
They befriend a policeman, Andy, Prue’s old flame and he uncovers their secret and agrees to keep it quite. Their romance grows whilst Prue’s younger sister’s are fighting over who gets to date the handyman – Leo Wyatt. With Piper winning the sisters uncover that Leo is not just an ordinary Handyman but a ‘Whiteligher’ someone who looks after witches and can heal and teleport (orb) anywhere. Brian Krause who plays Leo does it in such a gentle way and with an adorable smile that you cannot help but love the character.
You soon become drawn in to the Halliwell manor and the girl’s lives as they meet fantastic creatures, demons, warlocks, problems, figure out clue they find, learn about their powers, learn about their ancestors and get betrayed resulting in tragedy in the concluding episode…
