Charlotte's Web is an American family film released in the United Kingom on February 9th 2007. It is based on the book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. The film was directed by Gary Winwick and stars Dakota Fanning. Running time of the movie is ninety seven minutes.
The story is based on the life of a young pig named Wilbut. When little girl , Fern's dad plans on killing the piglet because he is the smallest piglet in the litter , Fern steps in , in order to try and save the life of the little pig ; promising to care for him herself. Fern then keeps little Wilbut as a pet ; allowing him in the house. When the piglet is too pig to keep as a pet , Fern's parents insist that he has to go ; they then come up with the idea of Wilbut going to live in Fern's uncles barn on the farm next door. Here he meets the rest of the farm animals and also makes a very special friend who's aim is to protect Wilbut
from being the main meal on Christmas Day. Will Wilbut be saved ? Watch Charlotte's Web to find out.
I bought this movie because it looked similar to Babe ; a movie which I have always loved. This movie is indeed similar to Babe , with talking animals and so on although the storylines are completely different. I liked both this film and Babe , and therefore I cannot decided which one I prefer best , although I'm sure that if you liked Babe then you'll like this.
For a while I couldn't work out why the film was called 'Charlotte's Web' , as there was no mention of Charlotte for a while. I hadn't read this book so I had no idea what this film was about , although I did know that it was about a pig as it was this reason that made me by the film. So when Charlotte was introduced I still couldn't make out what was going to happen. I have read other reviews which have said that this movie is predictable , although I can't disagree more. I was surprised at how unpredictable this film was. For example I had no idea what Charlotte was going to do.
Just like Babe , I felt sorry for Wilbut throughout this movie , especially when he found out that he would be killed for Christmas Dinner. I think this movie is great in the sense that it highlights how sad little pig's lives are ; they are only bred to be killed. I felt extremely sad when Wilburt found out what 'that house' really was! It brought tears to my eyes! Especially when he was saying 'I want to Live'.
Fern really stood out in this film. Dakota Fanning is such a brilliant actress , and at such a young age too. I had heard of Dakota Fanning on the 'Forbes richest kids under 21' programme and she was on it. I thought 'oh another child actress' when I heard how many millions she was worth and so on. I had never seen a film or television programme with her in , but when I saw this film , she is so loveable and cute , and reminds me a lot of Amanda Seyfried who played Sophie in the musical Mamma Mia!
One character who I really disliked was the rat ; he was so spiteful and …oh just mean and so selfish!
In some places I found that this movie dragged on. I won't say which parts as I don't want to give too much of the plot away than I already have.
There is some humour in the movie , especially one part which I couldn't stop laughing at , when Fern takes the pig to school! It's hilarious.
If your looking for a great family film or if you loved Babe , watch this! You won't be disappointed.

Advantages: Fantastic real life and animated animals, success of small things Disadvantages: Over sweet story, too identifiable voice talents, realistic rat, flat characters
