Charlie's Angels is THE worst film that I have ever seen. I am so sad that the only reason I did not walk out halfway through is that I wanted to review it on here! If this is Girl Power they can keep it. The film seemed to be a jumbled mess with no sense of direction, so maybe McG should stick to the GAP adverts. Trying to bring the 70's back to life with a mix of the year 2000 just does not work.
Cameron Diaz is the smiling Natalie, dim witted would be her best description. Her cleavage gets more shots than is decent, but then it takes the attention away from the dire acting.
Drew Barrymore is Dylan, she lost her personality somewhere in all of the script rewrites. She gets lots of cleavage shots too, especially as her clothes are always buttoned or zipped up to reveal optimum cleavage.
Lucy Liu is Alex who can flick her hair better than any other woman on the planet.
The film started quite promisingly with LL Cool J playing what looked like an African chief freefalling from a plane holding onto a bad guy, but it was actually Dylan with an LL Cool J face!!
Anyone who remembers the original series, will know that it's popularity did not depend on gripping storylines..well neither does the film, because while it does have a story, it is so bad in places I was physically cringing. The camera angles are perfectly placed for cleavage and bottom shots, which lingered a little too long to be comfortable. All 3 are karate experts and some scenes took their inspiration from The Matrix, but it does not work. There is one scene where they walk up the beach looking like the new Sisters Of Murphy from the TV ad.
The scenarios the angels find themselves in are nothing short of ridiculous...Austrian yodellers cum kissagram in order to get a man to look down a trombone to get a copy of his retina was just one of them! They also moonlight as racing car drivers and business efficiency experts.
The story is set around a computer whizz called Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell), who is kidnapped by someone trying to steal his latest invention. His business partner Vivian played by Kelly Lynch enlists the help of the girls.
Natalie dreams of becoming a disco dancer and we are tortured with scenes of her "grooving".
Alex lives with an actor called Jason, played by Matt Le Blanc, and he thinks she is a bikini waxer, even though she knows the finer working details of explosives.
Dylan has no ambition, but is seen with Chad played by her real life husband Tom Green, who is the captain of his own ship and has no particular purpose in the film.
The film is a mess, it seems like lots of script writers all put their ideas onto film without seeing if they worked together. All the film actually succeeds in is overloading us with women in tight clothes doing spinning karate kicks at every given opportunity.
All the actors, Bill Murray included should be ashamed that they put their names to such a poor piece of work. Tom Green (MTV comedian and fiance of Drew) has a cameo as a lovestruck admirer of Dylan, and my only hope is that he agreed to take part in the film because he wanted to help his girlfriend out.
Apparently there were so many rumours of hair pulling and bickering that the film was nearly scrapped...what a shame it wasn't.
Production was dogged with problems, there were a minimum of 30 script rewrites, and the final budget for the film was rumoured to be around $60 million. Initially, it may have done well at the box offices due to hype, but it is not a film that will last, and therefore probably end up making a huge loss.
Very very poor.

Advantages: A generally good cast; well choreographed screen action; good variety of music. Disadvantages: Attempts to be too clever for its own good; has no concept of pacing; not all music tracks are suitable.
Advantages: Anything that has Cameron Diaz in it, wet and 'unzipped' to the waist has got to get 5 stars Disadvantages: not sure Lucy Liu was the right casting for the 3rd 'Angel'

Review of Charlie's Angels (DVD)
Advantages: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz... Disadvantages: The most stupid film ever, even worse than The Avengers, possibly as bad as Batman and Robin
