How do you take on a classic 70’s TV series and turn it into a new feature film for the more demanding/critical audience of today?
(a) try to make a serious clone of the original (b) step back, pause, have long hard look, then poke fun in a light hearted gentle tongue in cheek way
The 2nd is the best way to go, as you run the risk of offending the die-hard followers of the original. McG and his team achieve (b) to great affect in this fun for all movie romp.
Drew Barrymore heads both the Cast and crew as she acts in and produced this film. Cameron Diaz, Lucy liu and the brilliant Bill Murray as Bossley join her in the good guys. The rest of the cast includes Tim Curry, Sam Rockwell, Kelly Lynch and Crispin Glover.
The Plot: - Billionaire to be software developer is Kidnapped and his secret government commissioned software stolen. Enter the Angels, who are hired to find the missing person and re-acquire the top-secret software. They get their man but can’t seem to find the software in the computer system of the suspected bad guy. This is where the plot starts to twist and turn.
The best performance in the film was definitely Cameron Diaz as a feisty but flaky genius. Apparently Miss Diaz was also the most professional while training for and executing the martial arts used in this film.
Favourite joke: - Opening scene, plane, LL cool J takes his seat, in flight movie starts, “TJ Hooker The Movie”, LL passes comment about another 70’s TV being made into a movie.
This is the Directorial debut for McG in movies as he had only done video up until this point, not a bad job at all, I think anyway. But with Charlie’s Angel 2 due out in 2003 we are in for a treat. It is as rumoured that he has been approached to do a new Superman movie. Can’t wait.
Good Story, great twist, just enough overacting (especially from the master of overacting, Tim Curry), and the best non-verbal bad guy in the history of movies (played by Crispin Glover, our play George McFly in the Back to the Future Series).

I gave this a try unfortunately and was very very disappointed. Too silly with a none existant story line, it felt like I was watching a two hour long pop video...lol...sorry but we all differ on these subjects..good op though

Think you needed to go into a bit more detail with this one - your opinion is about the DVD, so I would also suggest that you ask Ciao to move this to the DVD category. Cheers, Phil :O)

Advantages: Anything that has Cameron Diaz in it, wet and 'unzipped' to the waist has got to get 5 stars Disadvantages: not sure Lucy Liu was the right casting for the 3rd 'Angel'

Review of Charlie's Angels (DVD)
Advantages: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz... Disadvantages: The most stupid film ever, even worse than The Avengers, possibly as bad as Batman and Robin
