What can I say about this movie? Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and my all time top chick Drew Barrymore running around being sexy and kicking butt. FANTASTIC. But is there anything more to this movie?
I do not know too much about the original series of Charlie’s Angels what with me being a young chap. I have seen a few episodes of it and it never really made too much of an impression. With all these remakes of old series that are springing up I know that this can be an advantage, it removes all preconceptions and leaves a successful premise.
What happens in the movie then? Well you have three girl private eyes who work for a multi millionaire. They have never met their boss and only talk to him on a speakerphone. The only link they have to their boss is Bosley (Bill Murray) who is little more than bumbling comic relief.
A millionaire computer company chairman is kidnapped and his software stolen. The Angels are recruited to track him down and retrieve the software. This leads to countless fight scenes (a nice little feature is the fact that not one of the Angels ever uses a gun), countless sexy scenes (well what can you expect with that cast?), and one or two car chases.
The thing with this movie is that it does not take itself too seriously. You know this from the first scene when they make some quips about remaking old TV series as movies. The movie is written cleverly enough to not make you think you are watching American Pie or Road Trip but also that this is not Heat or Serpico. No mean feat when you have gone through thirty scriptwriters.
The special effects are fantastic. The fight scenes use the same slow motion animation as The Matrix. They are openly outrageous yet somehow believable in this context.
Yet how could I review this movie without mentioning the outstanding cast? We have Cameron Diaz as the slightly girly one. Tough but gooey around men. Then there is Lucy Liu as the serious one. Hard as nails and very sexy in an S & M type way. Finally we have Drew Barrymore. The brash loose one. Funny and very very very sexy. There is something here for every single member of the male population.
Then there is the supporting cast. Bill Murray is almost Ghostbusters funny in this. Matt Le Blanc is good but basically playing his character Joey from Friends. The best of the supporting cast however is Tom Green (Drew’s real hubby so I should hate him). He is barely onscreen but got louder laughs than anyone else in the movie.
Watch this movie. It is actually very funny. It has great action sequences. But most of all it has three great sexy girls in skimpy clothes.
inal 1970s jiggle show. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore (who also produced) and Lucy Liu star as the hair-tossing, fashion-setting, kung-fu fighting trio employed by the my...
