Advantages:
Super sexy, mega styling, nice soundtrack . . .
Disadvantages:
No story, bad acting, cheesy gags, ridiculous action, tacky product placement, a character coming back from the dead and pathetic baddies . Oh well, the TV series was rubbish too . . . . . . .

.....and maybe it isn't supposed to be, but that is no excuse for making possibly the worst film of the past year. It is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I have ever watched at the cinema. Of course, the most appealing aspect of the film (to the men anyway) are the angels themselves. Cameron, Drew and Lucy all look stunning in their slinky catsuits, but this cannot constitute an entire movie. The plot.....what plot? It is virtually non-existent, something about computer chips if I recall, and the action scenes are barely any better......okay, so the camera work is pretty classy with some unusual special effects, but the improbability of the what they're doing just adds to the laugh out loud factor....in a bad way.
The acting quality is hardly stunning either. The ladies try hard but their characters are given scripts which make them seem like the regular dumb bimbos which they quite obviously are not. The baddies give particularly unmemorable performances, the only saving graces on the acting front being Bill Murray, showing he is rather more experienced than most of the cast as assistant Bosley, and TV funnyguy Tom Green who gives one of the few genuinely funny moments as one of the Angels' (I forget which one) ex-boyfriends. Matt LeBlanc, Joey from Friends, does not live up to his telly performances, playing Lucy Lui's action movie hero boyfriend in a pretty lifeless way.
Admittedly, Charlie's Angels does look rather stunning, the whole film doused in new millenium super-chic, but this is hardly a saving grace. When it comes out on video, it might be worth a rent for a dose of pop culture cool, with its groovy styling and actually pretty funky soundtrack, but is probably better avoided if you prefer a film with a little more substance. You might even laugh when you see it....we certainly did....not at the tacky gags, but at just how anyone could appreciate such a bad excuse for moviemaking. I wouldn't mind if I never saw it again, but it might just be worth one try.....

Good op, but I think you missed the point of the movie.

Being a female martial artist myself I have a real problem with girls kicking arse in lycra outfits, it offends me and belittles what we do. However, having said this I did really enjoy the film, its a good laugh and has some great action bits - but you're right it is ridiculous too. So watch it for fun - at least its better than the original where the girls were too pretty and too pathetic! Plus the baddy is great - there should have been more in depth scenes with him in it! p.s not being nasty with the helpful rating, it would have been VH if you'd put a bit more info in. I like the style, nice.

Although I agree totally and you present your opinion well, I feel that some detail on the plot is necessary for a VH. Sorry for the H and cheers for an interesting read, Timmy.

Review of Charlie's Angels (DVD)
Advantages: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz... Disadvantages: The most stupid film ever, even worse than The Avengers, possibly as bad as Batman and Robin
