There are two camps of opinion on this film. One side will tell you that they loathe it in every possible way with its weak script, action etc. The other side will tell you that it's an incredibly entertaining popcorn flick.
Don't see Charlies Angels if you're expecting a solid film that makes you think. it's just a film that does exactly what it says on the tin. It has great looking girls, a pumping soundtrack and lots of explosive action. Personally I really enjoyed it for what it was and loved it for it's goofy charm.
The plot is a bit thin but involoves the theft of some computer software and the kidnapping of its creator. The angels are called on to get the two back. All fingers pint towards a rival software company run by Tim Curry who really gets into his role. There is a twist in the plot whihc changes things but along the way the angels high kick their way through the bad guys while looking great. Cameron Diaz steals the show with her goofy charm. She really gets into her role and is likeable. It also helps that shes not too bad on the eye either. Barrymor as well as that goofy boyish charm which makes everything she does likeable. Liu is the real kick ass element and has that dangerous and sexy look that completes the trio wonderfully. Bill Murray can do the deadpan wit thing in his sleep and as always is funny without saying anything. On the supporting side Sam Rockwell is proving to be quite good at comic roles but the show is stolen by one of the best villains seen in recent years. Crispin Glovers Thin Man is great, he doesn't say a word but can really mix it up kung fu style and has a strange affliction for hair.
The action is over the top, explosive and big. It never gets boring. Although the matrix style kung fu doesn't really belong it still works beacuse of the whole tongue in cheek style of the movie. One scene in particular is great when the angels pit their skills against the Thin Man backed by a techno sopundtrack.
Leave your brain at the door and you're sure to have a good time. Some films should be taken for what they're meant to be. If you don't like seeing mindless fun then go see a drama.

Advantages: Anything that has Cameron Diaz in it, wet and 'unzipped' to the waist has got to get 5 stars Disadvantages: not sure Lucy Liu was the right casting for the 3rd 'Angel'

Review of Charlie's Angels (DVD)
Advantages: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz... Disadvantages: The most stupid film ever, even worse than The Avengers, possibly as bad as Batman and Robin
