Shamelessly and gratuitously sexist. Flashy, trashy nonsense. And don’tcha just love it to death!
Well that was what I thought after I’d watched the re-vamped Charlie’s Angels back at the Cinema some two years ago. I confess to having the ‘hots’ for Cameron Diaz (And what red blooded male does not?) and would not push Drew Barrymore out of bed either – so those two facts in themselves drew (no pun intended) me to this movie at first.
This is, after all, meant to be entertainment. No ‘sub-plot’, ‘hidden agenda’ and certainly never was going to get into the Oscar nominations list. But it’s a cracking over-the-top, all-action movie full of fast cars, boats and high kicking gorgeous girls – look no further. Charlie’s Angels has all these things and more! A bit like a low brow James Bond movie (– is there such a thing as a ‘HIGH BROW’, James Bond film ?). Anyway, dis-engage your brain, sit back into a comfy chair, switch on, enjoy…..
The story….oh forget the story, you came for the babes didn’t you? Well Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu play the Angels with certainly the first two spending much of the film trying hard not to let their boobs pop out of their costumes! Now that’s definitely a job I’d like – you know..the guy that has to tape them down to stop them just …flopping out when they are not supposed to! And with some of the costumes you can imagine a quick turn in front of a mirror and the phrase I used in my title being uttered – and the answer is “No, most certainly not”.
Add into the mix that ageing, but still still capable, comedian Bill Murray. He is excellent as the hopeless, hapless ‘Bosley’ – Charlie’s ‘gopher’ and the go-between who contacts the Angels for their assignments. The girls each have their own character – much like in the original TV Series from the 70s – with both Drew and Cameron showing their comic abilities with some one-liners. Ms Liu, I found to be slightly miscast. Sure she can kick with the best of them, but personality – she has little! Maybe as the lesser of the trio ‘star-wise’ she was in awe or more likely she just was not given the lines. Her on-screen boyfriend in this movie is none other than Matt le Blanc of ‘Friends’ and ‘Lost in Space’ fame. His role is a minor one though, I guess not to detract from the main cast. Now, if only they’d have upped the ante and cast Halle Berry alongside Cameron and Drew……mmmmmm, I can see the $$$$$ signs already
OK – The story then, if I must. The Angels have to find kidnapped computer whiz Eric Knox and his marvellous piece of voice recognition software that could be very dangerous if in the wrong hands. Those ‘wrong hands’ belong to one of Hollywood’s favourite British baddies - Tim Curry - who plays Millionaire Roger Corwin. But there are a few twists along the way. It seems that the overall target is Charlie himself – it’s all a bit of a ploy to flush him out into the open. I won’t reveal why, who and how – just watch the movie (If you haven’t already) and enjoy the ride.
Like I said, this is not a ‘thinking mans film’ – the sight of Ms Diaz flying through the air unleashing a karate kick, while the zip on her jumpsuit edges further down towards her navel and her boobs resolutely refuse to do the right thing and leap out into view! Ms Barrymore – once a ‘Hollywood wild child’, famous for ‘getting them out’ for David Letterman live on TV, has similar costume…’designs’. Definitely no strain on the eyes and not taxing for the brain.
DVD STUFF You can see this movie on Sky TV quite regularly, but if like me, you think it’s just fab, you could go the whole hog and buy the DVD. You never know, they may have some outtakes where things maybe slip out just a bit too far (I still want the job as the set guy who stands by to ‘put them back in again’!). Sorry – they don’t, but the extras are pretty interesting to look at – nothing groundbreaking, but if you are a fan, well worth paying a couple of £££s extra to buy the DVD rather than Video. Currently www.play.com has the DVD on offer at £9.99 inc postage and you can possibly pick up a BOGOF offer in the likes of HMV, Virgin or other offline stores which will work out around the same price.

Advantages: Superb, brain-in-netral campy fun with non-stop flashy action sequences Disadvantages: Very 'music video' in style, Tom Green sucks, not for the curmudgeonly...and don't expect to expand your mind here!
...decent reviews at the time, Charlie's Angels was a movie I personally had vowed to avoid as being just another lame Hollywood attempt to cash in on the successes of retro TV shows. Having already suffered the atrocious mess they made of The Avengers that year as well as having sat through the likes of The Partridge Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, Mission Impossible, Wild, Wild West(yes, that was based on a 60s TV show no one remembers) and countless ... ...for a long time...
Charlie's Angels is, as I hinted at and I'm sure you already know anyway, based upon the popular 70s TV show of the same name which was arguably the very first example of mainstream girl power to assault the public eye. Hitting the screens in 1976(although it was during the 80's that I saw it), it ran for 5 seasons, changing cast several times but most well remembered for its original three angels of Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith ...

Advantages: So camp it's great Disadvantages: An extra 20 minutes wouldn't have gone a miss!
Charlie’s Angels arrived in the post on the Thursday morning; we watched it that afternoon, again on Friday with friends and again on Saturday with some more friends! I plan on watching it again, and again and again, and I firmly believe this could become one of my favourites before too long.
I had heard mixed reviews about the film whose production seemed to be plagued by mishaps and problems, and at one point was almost not made because ... ...with her film, and the outcome is a little cracker.
I missed this fantastic film at the cinema and was most peeved with myself, knowing this, and obviously loving me very much, Hubby ordered me my very own copy on DVD, and I put my tongue firmly in my cheek when we hit the play button.
For 99 minutes I sat glued to the sofa and watched a film that made me laugh out loud, chuckle to myself quietly and smile at the pure genius of McG’s direction. ...

Advantages: Two hours of brainless entertainment and gorgeous babes Disadvantages: Two hours of brainless entertainment
NOTE: This was originally filed under the TV series because I couldnt find Charlies Angels. I didn't realise about the rogue apostophes so apologies if you've already read this. I've rewritten the original so you can go back check and rerate if you want. It should be next to this in my list.
I finally got round to watching “Charlie’s Angels” and actually it was quite fun. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, there are lots ... ...reality is put on hold for the duration of the movie, and it doesn’t drag at all. If you want something to exercise the grey cells then this is not for you. It stars Cameron Diaz , Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the three “Angels” who are detectives hired by the mysterious “Charlie” who’s face we never see (but played by John Forsyth of Dynasty fame) to rescue kidnapped software genius Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell). ...

Advantages: Funny, entertaining, great characters Disadvantages: A bit too cheesy for some
Alex (Lucy Liu), Natalie (Cameron Diaz) and Dylan (Drew Barrymore) have all come from very different backgrounds to end up working for Charlie. Charlie is someone who likes to keep his identity secret therefore giving away nothing for enemies to possibly use against him. Charlie communicates with the girls who he refers to as his Angels through a speaker box controlled by Bosley (Bill Murray).
When the Angels hear of a kidnapping they are immediately ... ...a company of voice recognition software has been kidnapped supposedly for his software. His colleague Vivian is worried and goes to the Angels for help however when Knox is found safe and well it seems like there may have been a double cross somewhere along the line and it’s up to the Angels to solve it. So years after the famous TV series aired and ended in the 70‘s, a film version of the iconic TV series that made the late Farrah Fawcett a star ...

Advantages: good effects, all 3 fine looking angels!! Disadvantages: cheesy, paper thin plot
Yet again I find myself writing a review on a film. I really do need to get a life LOL !!! However, I enjoy watching movies that much I may as well put my “Barry Norman” head on again and give you the low down on the latest film I’ve watched. And why not? (said in Barry Norman-esque voice!)
Bored stupid on a Monday night – aren’t we all?- I decided to trawl through Sky’s copious amount of movie channels. Guess ... ...scanned through the listings on their pay per view service Sky Box Office. After much deliberation I settled on “Charlie’s Angels”.
Should I have bothered?

Advantages: Funny, entertaining Disadvantages: Lots of sexual innuedno
...in the middle long enough for me to remember them. But the music in Charlie?s Angels is so in your face even I noticed it. Of course that could be because there were a lot of tunes that I knew at well, songs like; M C Hammer ?You can?t Touch This, which is brilliant, because all the Angels stop what they?re doing to dance the same moves as Hammer did, and even though it?s a really awful song you can?t help but tap along. There were snippets from lot of 80?s tune (which is my era), Bon Jovi ? Living on a Prayer, Rebel Rebel ? David Bowie (one of my favourites), Flashdance ?Irene Cara, and from other eras there was Everlasting Love, Firestarter and loads more. One that made me laugh (but confused the kids) was Who are you? by The Who, which played when they dressed up as CSI to investigate a crime scene.

Advantages: Great fun, good action scenes, good performances, funny. Disadvantages: The action at times can be a bit cringe worthy.
...I am a self-confessed chick flick lover. I love the kind of movies where girls kick ass rather than the guys, so I when I heard about Charlie?s Angels, I had to see it, and when I did I loved it! Obviously after the massive success a sequel was inevitable, so that?s where ?Full Throttle? comes in. I went to see the first Charlie?s angel movie on the first day it was out and I went to see this one too and all I can say is, that it?s a brilliant film! Some people would class this as an action movie but I think it?s a chick flick but in the best way possible! It?s basically a funny, girly action packed movie.
With the first movie I thought it was cute because it was kept simple, and there was plenty of comedy to keep you entertained as well as brilliant action sequences. This movie is created along the same lines but for some reason I...

Advantages: fast paced, great action, gorgeous people Disadvantages: you'll either love it or really, really hate it
...The angels are back, and this time their heels are twice as high, their outfits twice as revealing, and the plot twice as unbelievable. But that is the beauty of the Charlie's Angels, once you get past the obvious unbelievability of the entire thing, you're in for the ride of your life. If you thought the first film was action packed and fast-paced, you really ain't seen nothin' yet!
This is a sequel, but there's no real need to see the first film to explain anything, unsurprisingly, this film doesn't centre around a complicated plot and deep character analysis. Though it does have a plot, it's not too hard to follow. Anything you need to know from the first film is revisted and explained again. Though I would recommend watching the first just to see how they've 'evolved' with this movie. And to see Cameron doing her butt dance.
As...

Based on the babe-a-licious show from the 1970s, CHARLIE'S ANGELS is a defiantly goofy action movie featuring plenty of comedy and a strong sense of girl power. Three talented young women work for the mysterious Charles Townsend: Natalie (Cameron Diaz), the bubbly blond science expert; Dylan (Drew Barrymore), the rebellious tomboy; and Alex (Lucy Liu), the tough Angel who has trouble telling her boyfriend that she's a highly skilled secret agent. The Angels are assigned to locate Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell), a kidnapped computer expert whose new software could threaten global security if it were to fall into the wrong hands. The women go undercover to investigate this devious tycoon and are faced with double crosses, explosions, and the mysterious Thin Man. From the acclaimed music-video director McG (Joseph McGinty), CHARLIE'S ANGELS wastes little time on plot, instead presenting audiences with a series of spectacular MATRIX-style fight sequences, car chases, and stunts. Diaz, Barrymore, and Liu as the three Angels give terrific performances worthy of a new breed of female action hero, kicking major butt while remaining lovable and sexy. The movie also stars Bill Murray as the Angels' mentor, Bosley, and John Forsythe as the voice of Charlie.
