CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE reunites Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu as they once again wage battle against some formidable opponents. This time around the three...
more...angels are on a mission to track down two stolen rings that contain encrypted information relating to the Witness Protection Program. Naturally the girls kick some serious butt, often facing some familiar villains in the shape of a returning Crispin Glover (as the Thin Man) and Justin Theroux (as Seamus O'Grady), a former beau of Barrymore's character. To further spice things up, there is an ex-angel, played by a shapely Demi Moore, who is rather keen on getting her hands on the rings, all adding up to lots of thrills and spills for the girls.
Director McG returns from the original movie, this time upping the action ante with a series of spectacular stunts and CGI-assisted tricks. Employing a neverending array of celebrity cameo appearances, McG builds on the momentum of the previous movie and neatly balances the combination of comedy set pieces and action sequences. Cast and crew keep their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks throughout, leading to a not-too-serious romp that is a feast for the eyes.

Well this is the time of year in which the summer holidays hit and boredom strikes! This year I was determined not to let that happen and so for the first few days things seemed to be going quite well and then came the first Monday, the day I class as the first real day of my summer and I had nothing to do. I sat all day doing nothing until to my relief I received a text from Joe (j_mcb) inviting me the cinema. Great I thought to myself and on the bus journey there we chatted but on arriving at the cinema came the big debate. Which film did we see!? After a few moments of arguments we managed to come to an agreement of Charlie’s Angels 2 – Full Throttle.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this film as I hadn’t seen the first but I was outnumbered and forced to buy this ticket (Yes I was with 2 males desperate to see Cameron Diaz!) There hadn’t really been much of a hype about this film unlike some of the other sequels released earlier in the year such as the Matrix and all I had to go by was the trailers and a special that I had seen on MTV the week before. From the two combined I had one word running through my head – ASS! I looked to the side of me to see the company I was with (2 males) and I suddenly realised why we were going to watch this film!

Some of the minor film details:

Certificate – 12A (despite the naughty one-liners)
Director - Joseph McGinty Nichol
Running Time – 106 minutes

Onto the film itself, after the twenty odd minutes of meaningless commercials the film finally started. Lucy Lui, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore are back as Alex, Natalie and Dylan who are all stunning women working for an anonymous millionaire who is backing the angels in their quest to fight crime. Anyhoo the film opens with the angels disguised in a Mongolian bar where a bunch of ugly filthy men are holding an intelligence agent hostage. Natalie and Dylan work as distractions whilst Alex rescues the agent and kicks some serious ass. The angels win their fight in the bar by fighting roughly 50 men, falling down a dam in a truck but luckily and conveniently a helicopter falls as well and they are rescued.

This is where the main storyline comes into existence, the agent who was rescued wears a titanium ring which if put together with the other ring unlocks the secrets of the witness protection programme. We later learn after another ass kicking scene at the motor cross park that our very own butt kicking angel Dylan is part of the witness protection programme. Formerly known as Helen Zass (yes its what you think it says) Dylan witnessed her boyfriend murder someone (This is not at all well explained and I have no idea what was going on) and so was given the new identity and went on to become that ass kicking angel we all know and love.

As far as the sub plots go Natalie is moving in with her boyfriend Pete (Luke Wilson) and they go to a high school reunion in which Natalie struts her stuff! Demi Moore stars as the former angel Madison Lee and yes you’ve all probably seen her in that bikini next to the Ferrari – I just hope I look as stunning and fit as that when I’m her age (I don’t think I look that good now! Lol) There’s also a creepy man who has some sort of obsession with hair which to be honest in quite scary but I really don’t see his importance to the film, I really don’t remember what he was there for! A healthy addition to the cast was in fact Bernie Mac as Bosley who added some highly comical one-liners to the script. Another welcome addition was John Cleese (The master of Fawlty Towers) as Alex’s clueless father. He brought with him some of the most comical scenes in the film, which I found highly amusing. On the downside we still don’t meet Charlie!

There are a few cameo appearances in the movie from the likes of Pink the highly controversial yet entertaining artist of the title track “Feel Good Time” at the motor cross scene and also Bruce Willis as the wearer of the second titanium ring.

Full Throttle was clearly an expensive film with some amazing special effects, however it is clear that they are nothing in comparison to films such as the Matrix. Some of the fighting scenes I must say were brilliant but others however were quite overdone but what is to be expected from a sequel. A sequel of this type will always consist of bigger stunts, skimpier outfits (Which I suppose is ok for the male audience, us females however by the end of the film are screaming at the screen put some clothes on!!) and a less believable plot.

The soundtrack to the film is really good and adds to the film. The soundtrack features artists such as Pink, M C Hammer and Bon Jovi, my favourite being M C Hammer in which the three girls unite in a dance in Natalie’s new living room.

Full Throttle was not created to be realistic but to be a fun comical movie. The film has its witty one-liners (some quite naughty), my favourite being “You were the cock, I was the beaver!” said by Natalie to boyfriend Pete. Despite the over emphasized ass scenes and the constant “oohs” “ahhs” and “phwoars!” from the two boys I was with I did in fact enjoy the film. There were a few points in the film in which the boys and I sat saying “eh what’s going on?” as the film left a couple of aspects unexplained (The man with the fetish for hair!)

Overall I do recommend this film as a feel good film. Its not a chick flick and is great for the male audience (Well if they like any of the four main females otherwise they’re screwed) This is also very enjoyable for the female audience, instead of having to watch buff men kick ass with guns etc in the likes of James Bond we finally get to see our own kind take on the job. What makes the film better is its all done in classy outfits and stiletto heels!

Thanx for reading
