I am a self-confessed chick flick lover. I love the kind of movies where girls kick ass rather than the guys, so I when I heard about Charlie’s Angels, I had to see it, and when I did I loved it! Obviously after the massive success a sequel was inevitable, so that’s where “Full Throttle” comes in. I went to see the first Charlie’s angel movie on the first day it was out and I went to see this one too and all I can say is, that it’s a brilliant film! Some people would class this as an action movie but I think it’s a chick flick but in the best way possible! It’s basically a funny, girly action packed movie.

With the first movie I thought it was cute because it was kept simple, and there was plenty of comedy to keep you entertained as well as brilliant action sequences. This movie is created along the same lines but for some reason I thought it was just different, I don’t know why exactly but the tone felt slightly more comedic than the first one. Also I felt there were a lot more subplots than the first movie.

It seems to be the summer of the sequel with such sequels being released such as “2 Fast 2 Furious”, “Legally Blonde 2”, “Bad Boys II” and of course “Full Throttle”. When I read a few reviews on this movie the critics were way harsh about it, it didn’t really receive many good reviews. Why can’t they just see this movie for what it is, it’s a summer blockbuster, not an Oscar contender! Yet they feel the need to nitpick, this movie was created to have great action scenes, laugh out loud comedy, and just be a goofy movie for the audience to love! And that’s exactly what it is!

For those of you not familiar with Charlie’s Angels here’s the main story. Charlie Townsend is an anonymous millionaire who runs an investigation agency and his detectives are three beautiful women named Alex, Dylan and Natalie. There smart, sassy, beautiful and tough chicks that know how to look after themselves. Anyway the only contact these three women have with Charlie is through a speakerphone, they have never met him, and they only know his voice. There is only one person, who can connect the girls to Charlie and that is Bosley, be it Bill Murray or Bernie Mac, lol. The girls are assigned different mission from Charlie, and this movie is just another mission. The girls are, yes you guessed it Charlie’s Angels!

The movie begins with the angels being assigned to retrieve two titanium rings, which when combined list everyone on the witness protection programme. The angels need to get these two rings before they get into the wrong hands, but things prove difficult when it comes to pointing the finger to who’s behind it all. It’s not a very difficult story to follow and to keep things simple I’ll just tell you that, lol!

One thing that I found funny in a subtle way was how this movie poked fun at all those rumours concerning the first movie. You know all those rumours about several re-writes for the ending, the title for the second movie, and how the girl’s just didn’t get on, well there are subtle little jokes about it, which just proves this movie is certainly not to be taken seriously especially as it pokes fun at itself.

In my opinion this movie is for the girls because it shows girl’s playing the parts, which are usually given to men. It’s not an Oscar worthy movie set in reality, it’s extremely unrealistic but it’s just a fun, mindless summer movie! girls will definitely enjoy it more because they simply kick ass and make you want to as well! Me and my workmates went to see this and we all loved it, just thought it was so much fun, my guy friends however weren’t impressed, one claimed if the three hot chicks weren’t in it, he wouldn’t really bother with it. So boys you have been warned! Do not expect a serious action movie, this movie packs it all in, you know the action, the comedy (and trust me there are loads of laughs) the romance so it’s got lot of different elements to keep you entertained.

The plot in my opinion is a bit here and there, I just felt there were a few too many subplots that kind of drew away the attention from the main plot but this wasn’t a bad thing once you got used to it. I think this movie is very different to the original, there is a lot more going on this movie, the plot for the first movie was definitely more straightforward, there were quite a few subplots but it all worked out.

McG described Charlie’s Angels as a storybook and I understand where he is coming from. The movie is bright, and it moves from one scene to the next, but each scene is as memorable as the next without getting too muddled. One thing I loved about the movie.

Cameron Diaz played Natalie Cook who is definitely my favourite angel just because she is so kooky and laughs at herself. Definitely someone you’d want as a friend. My favourite scene with Natalie was in the montage piece in the beginning where she’s the school mascot (a beaver, lol) and ends up falling over, and she’s laughing hysterically whilst everyone else is just embarrassed for her, this just highlights the lovable character that Natalie is. I think Cameron Diaz played the part excellently because she brought some very ditzy qualities to the character yet you still felt she was an intelligent girl without thinking the two qualities clashed. Plus Cameron has this hilarious, infectious laugh that I love!

Drew Barrymore plays the rebellious angel Dylan Sanders. She is the one that kicks ass and doesn’t care who knows it. Definitely the tomboy of the group. Even though I love her character I just felt Drew Barrymore had the worst fight scenes. Seemed to be overtaken by the wire. I thought the other two had much better fight scenes. I thought she gave a brilliant performance though, I think Drew is an excellent actress, because I feel she can play lots of different roles without getting typecast. But she does well to fill this role.

The stunning Lucy Liu played Alex Munday. She’s the most sophisticated out of the three angels and is a bit of a daddy’s girl. I’d liked her character because she was the most soft-spoken out of three, sophisticated and chic, yet still kicking some serious ass at the same time. Lucy Liu got some very decent fighting scenes too. I think she played the part really well and I’m really glad she was cast as an angel.

One thing I really like about the film is that there are three extremely different angels. There’s the girly girl who loves to laugh at herself, there’s the rebellious tomboy who kicks some serious butt and then there’s the sophisticated woman. I think this adds a nice mix of personalities to the movie. You can always relate to at least one of them.

Demi Moore’s performance was decent, she suited being the bad girl, but her role did not live up to the hype. I didn’t really understand the big deal about her, a role like this playing a bad girl and having Ashton Kutcher on your arm does not mean your hot property in Hollywood once again, but well I guess it’s worked for her. I thought Demi Moore did a good job but seriously at one point I totally forgot she was even in the movie. Her role wasn’t memorable to be honest, in my opinion anyway; I thought the three angels did a way better job then she did, yet she seems to be getting all the attention…why is that?

Bernie Mac is a funny guy, there’s no denying that, I thought he was really funny in this movie but replacing Bill Murray as Bosley, is quite a tough thing to do. I thought Bill Murray was hilarious in the first one and would have loved for him to have reprised his role but Bernie Mac did well to fill his boots. His style of humour is very different to Murray’s but he’s still very funny. I was just very disappointed Murray decided against reprising his role. Possibly because of his differences with Lucy Liu, but that’s only speculation, who knows what really happened?

Watch out for the many cameos in this movie, there are plenty of different stars that make little appearances, I won’t mention any of them, just watch it and you’ll see some very different faces you’ll recognise.

McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol) a music video director made his big screen directorial debut with the first Charlie’s angels, and I must say I love his style. It’s bright, fun, and sometimes very unbelievable but it’s all about the McG experience. I think with Full Throttle he has directed a great film with a brilliant atmosphere. What I most like about his directing style is that it’s bright and fun, not really to be taken too seriously. When watching this movie it becomes apparent that he worked very hard on this movie. His unique style definitely separated this movie from the rest.

This movie is a crowd pleaser and nothing but. It’s all about the summer fun. For a sequel I thought this movie rocked, sequels are known for being less pleasing compared to their predecessors so this movie has certainly impressed me. This is one of many sequels out this summer, I personally think it’ll be one of the better ones, as the Angels get different missions, this is just another mission of theirs unlike a sequel just carrying on from where it left off, one reason why I think this movie is impressive.

The only problem I had with this movie is the action. It seriously is breathtaking and you know for a fact that the girls worked and trained hard to be able to perform those stunts but they are not living in a matrix style world for it to fit in. Some of the action just doesn’t fit in the movie, I think it looks good but I would have much preferred if the girls just did ‘ordinary’ fight scenes, which would have fitted in perfectly with the movie. I personally just thought the wire fighting scenes were too Matrix style, but in the Matrix it all made sense, but that’s just my opinion. Even though I would have preferred a normal fighting style I still really enjoyed the fight scenes. Go girls!

This movie has a decent soundtrack like the first movie did. Remember Destiny’s Child “Independent Women”. Well this movie has a very different theme song, which is performed by Pink. “Feel good time” is an infectious pop song, which is ideal for this movie. The music for the fighting scenes is brilliant. There’s no “Smack my b*tch up” by the prodigy but “Firestarter” can be found on the movie. All I know is “Smack my b*tch up” created an extremely memorable moment for Charlie’s Angels. In this movie however there was no song that left a lasting impression on me besides the other prodigy track Firestarter. A few tracks on the soundtrack are decent but I don’t think this soundtrack is as good as the one to the first movie. That soundtrack had plenty of good but different songs. But if you like the songs in the movie such as “You can’t touch this” by MC Hammer or “Danger, High Voltage” by Electric 6 then you will probably enjoy this soundtrack.

Overall this movie kicks ass, I loved it and I really want to see it again. It’s just so fun to watch, the girls seriously do kick ass whilst still having perfectly applied lip gloss! Chick flick? I think so, if you like movies where girls kick butt then this is for you, and guys if you like girls who look hot whilst fighting the bad guys then this is for you too! Just don’t expect a serious movie, this is all about the fun! I recommend this to people who will see it for what it is, there’s no point going to see this movie if you believe it will be any different to the first, and if you think that then I have no idea what you’re thinking. If you want to see it and just complain about how bad it is then don’t go see it because it shares the same tone and feel as the first movie. By the way, don’t expect “The Chad” to make an appearance, he’s nowhere to be seen! The Chad was great; he should have been in this one! Lol!

I loved the first CHARLIE'S ANGELS (for some reason because I thought it was going to be the worst film of the year), but I was actually quite disappointed...most notably of what you pointed out about the hilarious Bill Murray being replaced by...Bernie Mac? Like, who the hell cast this movie. While I liked the stars once again, I felt the action was too unrealistic. However, like you I like movies where women are kicking ass. If you want to see the ultimate woman kicking ass though, read my op on I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. For some reason, a woman in a string bikini driving a motorboat with an axe raised up over her head had me saying, "You've come a long way baby...Girl Power Rules!!!" Regardless of what I thought about FULL THROTTLE, another perfect op Chicky!!!! Chris xxxxx
