Charles II: The Power and the Passion is a superb BBC drama, which I found to be very interesting and enjoyable, with excellent contextually historical events interspersed with a moving and thought-provoking drama about the life and struggles of the first post-Cromwellian king. This royal soap opera takes place on an epic scale, covering the personal events and affairs of the king that lead to 14 illegitame children in the context of anti-Catholic feeling, both nationally and personally with the brother of the king, the future James II. The brilliant way the story is written to show events such as these on both scales also includes the Great fire of London and the plague, with the misery of Londeners reflecting on Charles' court. The first episode is an unusual one, in that it has a superb emotional begining with the slow-motion beheading of Charles I, but then goes on to become rather less enjoyable with what I believe to be excessive sexual scenes. Despite their historically acurate nature and adding to the drama, I feel that these do somewhat lower the enjoyment of the story. Certainly, with the aging Charles in the final episodes, this is toned down, and the story is very well played, ending with a brilliant depiction of Charles' death, with the conversion to Catholicism that is so contraversial to historians. Overall, however, a brilliant piece of drama, and well worth a watch.
Advantages: Insightful, up close and in your face. Disadvantages: there are things you may regret seeing in this production.
of the Cuban cigar's history, utilising the skills and experiences of the experts including the Havana historian, the Cuban peasant with his hands of gold and the legends collector.
But a word of warning folks. If you think that "Hamlet" and "King Edwards" are cigars, then think again. That is tantamount to saying that Buckingham palace is a nice wee 2 up, 2 down, or that Charles Faberge was an egg producer.
Yet despite this warning this DVD is informative on many levels. For those who appreciate a long white ash, it may be of interest to know the anatomy of a cigar, and have some semblance of an idea about the care and attention that goes into their production.
From students and lovers of South America, this production also gives an overview of the lives and dreams of some of Havana's dwellers.
And for the tourist, it forewarns ...

Overall 4 star rating, a wonderful storyline and good one for christmas/ december and january time of year. Dispite a lack of DVD featurettes and extras that would have made it more entertaining, It's still a must have addition to any Land Before Time fan's collection. A must have and a superb teaching DVD ...
Advantages: Great extras featured on this two disk DVD set. Disadvantages: Not as many behind the scenes extras as a RHPS fan would like.
of innocence. Meatloaf makes a stunning, if a little brief appearance as Eddie, the ex-delivery boy. His performance of "Hot Patooti" is surely one of the highlights of the film. Jonathon Adams is amusing as Dr. Everett Von Scott (shame about the accent though!) and finally the late Charles Grey is wonderful at setting the scene as The Criminologist.
The extras on this 2 disk DVD set are very enjoyable - particularly the audio commentary by Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn. The Rocky Horror Video Show documentary takes a satisfying look at the creation of the film istelf, featuring interviews with the people who made it all happen. Although there are some nice little cast and crew interviews and other little extras that give the viewer a different look at the whole Rocky Horror phenomenon, it still doesn't provide enough exclusive 'behind ...

DVD Description
The life of Charles II (who reigned from 1660-1685) is retold in this lavish drama. Charles (Sewell) having already been declared King during his exile, had entered into negotiations to return to the throne following the death of Oliver Cromwell. This resulted in Charles signing the Declaration of Breda which allowed him to return as King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland; Defender of the Faith. Revealing the public and private life behind the throne, Charles enjoyed many mistresses including actress Nell Gwynn, a French spy Louise De Keroualle and sex addict Barbara Villiers, but refused to divorce his infertile Queen. During the next 25 years of his reign; Charles has to deal with the Plague, the Great Fire of London, and finding a way to work with the Parliament who ordered the death of his father.
