Advantages: Everything that's good about Dickens' work is here, a fascinating and consuming read. Disadvantages: None. Unless you strongly dislike Dickens' writing style I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
Great Expectations is often considered to be Dickens' 'best' work, or at the very least amongst the best. I personally agree with this opinion, as a fan of Dickens' books, which is why I have given this product 5 stars.
As with most of Dickens' work, this was originally written as a series of weekly newspaper articles. This is worth baring in mind as characters are often 're-introduced' in a sense; however, I would not consider this a shortfall as Dickens does not repeat anything word-for-word, but rather uses this to convey additional information about the character as well as reminding the reader who the character is and where they fit in.
This classic contains some of Dickens' most intriguing and fascinating charcters. Written in a semi-autobiographical style, naive orphan Pip gives an interesting insight into dark and complex ...
Advantages: Everything good about Dickens' style is displayed in a challenging and consuming read. Disadvantages: Perhaps starts a little slowly before gaining speed, very challenging in parts, but is rewarding.
A Tale of Two Cities is a well known and popular novel by CharlesDickens, typically considered among his best publications. Although this is not my personal favourite in terms of Dickens' publications it is still deserving of all 5 stars.
The great thing about this book is that it is more than just a fascinating and twisting story; but also an insight into class conflicts and struggles of the French Revolution. From perhaps the most famous opening lines in English Literature "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" this complex novel slowly gains speed and builds into an incredibly thought provoking and compelling read. I'm not sure if I can name a more intriguing character than Madam Defarge.
This can be, in parts, difficult to follow and fully understand, but throughout you can feel Dickens' genious in the putting ...
Advantages: Great Novel, alot of tension Disadvantages: Very Long and in three voumes.
Great Expectations is one of CharlesDickens best and well known work, and in my review i will be analyzing the characters, places and themes throughout the book. Dickens often wrote about children and this is no exception in this novel.
Firstly the main character is Phillip Pirrip or Pip as he is reffered to throughout the book. Pip is the protagonist in the book and the narrator, meaning it is essential for Dickens to build a strong bond between him and the reader therefore Pip has to be a believable character. And this he is, he is an orphan (which two percent of children in the Victorian age where) and he is in poverty, both easily associable points. Pips parents are dead, however we are not told how or when they died, just that Pip cannot remember them anymore. His naivety is shown as he can describe his parents from ...
