When bank robbers take over a downtown bank in Seattle they make a rather strange request. They will only deal with one cop, detective Quentin Conners (Jason Statham), who is currently suspended from active duty. When Conners does things by the book the bank robbers are expecting it and use this as a means to escape. With the vault not touched and nothing seemingly taken it is up to Conners and his new rookie partner Dekker (Ryan Phillippe) to try ... ...robbery but also what the motive was.

Since he broke into the movie market in Lock Stock it's been clear that Jason Statham was going to really make a name for himself. These days of course his roles have seen him break Hollywood and it was with this in mind that I settled down to watch Chaos. I've been a fan of Statham films since Lock Stock and this film see's him taking a role on the right side of the law. It is a very entertaining movie and combines a few unexpected twists and turns that for once I really didn't see coming.
It was perhaps the first big budget movie for director and writer Tony Giglio who had previously been behind the camera for In Enemy Hands and Soccer Dog. So perhaps not the best pedigree of films, so to speak, coming into an action movie like this. He does not disappoint though as the special effects and direction are incredibly smooth. There are explosions, car chases and fight scene's that all look really good. The direction and use of each character is achieved well and they all suit the roles very well.
It also helps that Giglio has written a very engaging script. It is a little slow for the first 10 to 20 minutes but as soon as the action picks up at the bank it doesn't stop for the remaining hour and a bit of the films 106 minute run time. The script has a number of different twists and i think that holds your attention. It was never going to be a big blockbuster film but it is certainly a good, entertaining film that does exactly what you would expect it to.
The cast is actually quite a mixed bag of actors, with Statham, Ryan Phillippe and Wesley Snipes taking on the three main roles. In Statham I think Hollywood in general has a very good leading man for this kind of action movie. His character and appearance is quite mean and moody but shrouded in mystery. He pulls off this role incredibly well and my only comment on Statham of late would be his array of accents, I don't think he actually knows where he is meant to be from anymore.
In Ryan Phillippe I think they also have a decent supporting actor. He has the right look as a rookie cop and I've always thought that Phillippe is a good actor, this sort of role seems to suit him and he takes to the character very well. I am also a big fan of Wesley Snipes and in this he, very convincingly plays the mastermind behind the bank robberies. The cast as a whole are very convincing and like the script I think that Giglio has made some very astute choices in the various roles.
Overall this is a very entertaining action movie. It has all the key ingredients with Car chases, explosions and fight sequences that keep you interested in the movie, it is a good way to pass an hour and 40 minutes and with a few twists and turns it tries to ensure that you will keep watching. It never really seemed to get much press time when it was released but I can honestly say, hand on heart that if you like Statham, Phillippe or Snipes you'll like this movie.

Chaos was playing on Sky Movies last night, there was nothing else on, and I wanted to watch a VERY sexy guy hehe, so Chaos was put on. The film is great, the storyline is easy to follow, but not simple, meaning that although it's not impossible to understand what is going on, it's also not at all predictable, and there is a fabulous twist in the storyline, which I loved! :) The thing I like most about this film is it pushes ...

Advantages: I very complex story Disadvantages: Jason Statham and Wesley Snipes
has been a controversial film that has sat on ice for two years; the reason for this was that three countries invested money in it the UK placed the majority of the money in the movie, with Canada having second largest share and the United States having the third largest share. And while the UK are happy to go with the flow the US and Canada are fighting over who gets first launch of the movie. However the movie has been freely available throughout the rest of the world for some time. The movie is of a standard that it will certainly deserve a cinema release, so no straight to DVD occurrence will happen here; and I have heard that a Cinema release is imminent; but when is certainly unsure.
I would certainly recommend seeing Chaos if only for watching Ryan Phillippe act everybody else into a box; and certainly the story deserves some ...

Advantages: Eccentric cast and plot Disadvantages: No special features menu
Based on Hunter S Thompson's controversial and almost classic book, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Terry Gilliam (Monty Python) directs this turbulent madness and recreates the effects of drugs on journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) accompanied by his attorney the legendary Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in a long haul through Las Vegas.
The film and book are different in their own respects, obviously the book is more detailed and the film is closed in on what is important, but the film ending is left more open and it certainly leaves you with a feeling of 'have I taken something?' after exploding with chaos and mayhem throughout.
The only disappointing element with the DVD is the need for a Special Features menu which would have been without a doubt very enjoyable.
However, the film is satisfying and fun and provides ...
