Catherine Tate, I think, is one of the world's most funny female comedians, and hit the big time with her self titled comedy show The Catherine Tate Show. It began on BBC2 in 2004, and was an instant hit, so much so that she was invited to perform at the Royal Variety Performance as her most known character Lauren Cooper. She also made an appearance at Comic Relief of 2006, and I think it was the success of this, and her second series, which led to the commission of her inclusion in Comic Relief 2007, to a much larger degree than before! For me, Catherine Tate made the whole Comic Relief show of 2007. I watched the whole thing to make sure that I caught all 4 sections of the show! I was pleased to see that they had made a DVD of the Comic Relief specials, selling only on Amazon for a fiver, with 3 pounds going to Comic Relief. So you can have a real laugh whilst donating some money to charity.
So here is a brief recap of the sketches which appear on the Catherine Tate Comic Relief DVD. Everyone's favourite teenager Lauren Cooper appears for 2 marvellous and hysterical sketches. First of all, Lauren is in an English class when who walks in... none other than the lovely David Tennant. There ensues some Doctor Who jokes and jokes about a Scotsman teaching English. Pure comedy genius, I loved this sketch. David does a great job with comedy acting, and has a great raport with Catherine, a fantastic sketch lasting about 7 minutes.
The other Lauren sketch features none other than Prime Minister Tony Blair. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I was so shocked by this sketch, I couldn't stop laughing! That one is reason enough to buy this DVD! I think this one was the best one of the lot, purely because I found it so funny, and I didn't expect the ending of this one. Another sketch which was hilarious was Elaine Figgis, the unlucky in love character from Series 1 and 2. She seems to have hit the jackpot when she says an actor has moved in with her, but she doesn't believe him! The camera then cuts to none other than James Bond, Daniel Craig! The rest of the sketch is fantastic, with Daniel playing a fab role so different to Bond!! This one definitely gets 5/5! Daniel Craig is known for being very serious and deadpan but we see a complete new side to his acting persona in this sketch, I absolutely love him!
The final sketch on the DVD is pictured on the front cover. It is Joanie "Nan" Taylor appearing on Deal or No Deal with Noel Edmonds. This is filmed on the real set, with the music, boxes and everything so it is really convincing. I obviously won't spoil it for you but it really is a must see sketch for fans of Deal or No Deal...Nan says and does everything we all want to say about that show! The menus on the disk are fantastic, you are able to watch the whole DVD at once, or you can select a sketch to watch, which is handy if you only feel like watching one of them.
This DVD is 35 minutes long, and the Special Feature is an extended version of Deal or No Deal. The DVD is exclusive to www.amazon.co.uk, and retails for 5 pounds, with 3 pounds of that being given to Comic Relief. If you are a fan of Catherine Tate, you will want to buy this one, especially knowing you'll be helping out Comic Relief too.
