I have always liked Tom Hanks films because I think he is a brilliant actor, with a tiny hint of comedy, and I found that Cast Away was yet another winner for him.
I liked the film because it pretty much went straight into the main story, but allowed enough time to understand the stress and dedication Chuck (Tom Hanks) had for his job. He was in charge of a well-known international courier company called FedEx and had a perfect relationship with his girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt).
Sadly Chucks plane crashes over the sea whilst he is on a business trip to Russia, and he finds himself on a desert island in the middle of nowhere. Chuck has to learn to catch his food, make fire to cook his food, collect drinking water and make tools to equip his survival. The film is really brilliant, as you realise the devastation he feels when he realises that he has nobody except a volleyball called Wilson, which brings the aspect of comedy to the film.
It is a shock when “4 Years Later” comes up on the screen, and you see a totally changed Chuck with long tribal hair, but you still feel a sense of loneliness. The film was very clever in the fact that you understood what it would be liked to be deserted, and on your own, and how to make the best of the situation, practically and mentally.
The film is general quiet as there is no one else on the island, but Tom Hanks still provides his comic outbursts which take the edge off things. I would recommend it to people definitely, it is brilliant, and makes you appreciate everything that you have back home.

After watching this the first time, I thought the second time will be boring, but I was surprised. A masterpiece. x

Advantages: brilliant acting, great special effects, tonnes of special features, cheap Disadvantages: feels as if special effects are prioty over acting, storyline wasn't as good
