Good old Tom!
Yet another sterling performance from Mr Hanks as Fed-Ex worker who survives a plane crash only to get washed up on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere.
The film itself was good viewing but as you would expect kind of predictable in its outcome. The film trundles along a bit sometimes but Tom keeps this going well where many actors may not have done.
With the plot being kind of thin - it basically shows the highlights and lowlights of Tom's 5 year stay on the island until he finally manages to build a boat to get him off of it.
There are some comical moments in the film as well as some quite sad ones. The film paints a good picture of what can happen to a person if they have no human contact for such a long period of time but also shows how well humans can adapt to near-alien conditions and overcome huge obstacles with time and patience.
I recommend the film to anyone, however anyone who gets easily restless may not have the patience for the film.
The plot is a bit watery(pardon the pun) but a good performance from Tom Hanks saves it.

Advantages: brilliant acting, great special effects, tonnes of special features, cheap Disadvantages: feels as if special effects are prioty over acting, storyline wasn't as good
