Last night I went to the cinema wanting to see the new film Hannabel, but due to my girlfriend being a scaredy cat, we went to see Cast Away instead. To be honest I wasnot looking forward to the film and I expected the film to bore me to death. How wrong could I be!!!.I normally do not like slow films , but this was a major exception for me.I will warn you Im now going to go over the basic plot, so if you dont want to know what happens stop reading NOW.
The films main star is Chuck Noland, an employee with the mail giant Fed Express played by the truely excellant actor Tom Hanks. His loveable honest caracter is always travelling around the world with his job at a minutes notice, leaving his love of his life Kelly (played by Helen Hunt) at home in Memphis. He leaves her shortly after Christmas dinner again at a moments notice to fly across the Pacific ocean...good knows where to mind!!
This journey goes wrong after the plane re routes to avoid the centre of a storm and ends up ditching into the sea. This scene is one of the best plane crashes Ive actually seen in a film. The detail of it makes it one of the best bits of this film.Chuck is the only surviver and driftes through the night on a life raft.He wakes up in the morning on a small, deserted island, without comforts of even a pair of shoes with him. Most of the 2 hours 20 minutes film are set on the island as Chuck gets to grips with even the most simple of taskes to help feed and shelter himself from the weather.
This is one film I will own on video when it comes out as I believe it was a very well made film.I think a film that keeps my attention for so long without so little meaningful dialogue is worthy of seeing again.
I will recommend people to see this film as I think its so good, that Hanks will again be picking himself up an Oscar or two.

Advantages: brilliant acting, great special effects, tonnes of special features, cheap Disadvantages: feels as if special effects are prioty over acting, storyline wasn't as good
