This really was another proud moment in the long line of amazing films from the living legend that is Tom Hanks.
It pretty much illustrated the evolution of man, all in a couple of hours, and I have never in my life become so emotionally attached to a small, spherical piece of inflated leather. They managed not to fall into the dangerous trap of narrating his epic survival, which could so easily have polluted this tale of man's inner journey and twisted irony.
The film also boasts possibly the most accurately represented, tense and gripping plane crashes ever to be seen on the big screen. However the film does ask a lot of questions, and if you like a movie with a clearly defined ending then this one may not be for you. Some may even call it slow, although you don't really expect action to come thick and fast if you're stranded on a desert island for four years.
A truelly profound evening's entertainment.
